Rescue Me to End Its Run in 2011

A fictional New York City firehouse will be closing its doors in 2011. According to Variety, Rescue Me will air its sixth and final season in 2011.

The series, which airs its fifth season finale on Tuesday, has been given a 19-episode order. Production on the last season will begin in September, but it was unclear whether the series will air one final 19-episode season or if it will be broken up into two smaller seasons, although the two separate seasons seems more likely.

The series stars Denis Leary, who also co-created the series with Peter Tolan. The series' end coincides with the 10-year anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks, which inspired the series' creation.

Retarded to order more episodes of something that's failing in ratings such that they're cancelling it. As ratings change all the time and if they're good now then there's no way of knowing if they'll be too low during the 6th season to even call it the final season. Sounds like they just desperately want the end to coincide with the 10th anniversary of 9/11 just for the hell of it.
