Netflix may produce new episodes of Reno 911!
Producers Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher are in discussions with Netflix to produce new episodes of the show, although nothing is concrete yet. A deal still needs to be worked out with series creators/stars Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, and Comedy Central would need to sign off on the new episodes, since the network owns the copyright to the series. Here's what Michael Shamberg had to say about what needs to happen next.
"The real next step is finding out if Tom and Ben even want to do it. But it's definitely a realistic possibility."
We reported in March that Netflix is producing and distributing its first original series, House of Cards, with David Fincher executive producing and directing the pilot episode. It seems this potential Reno 911! deal sprung from House of Cards. Michael Shamberg emailed Netflix chief creative officer Ted Sarandos to congratulate him on the House of Cards deal, when talk of resurrecting Reno 911! came up.
