Movie PictureAccording to The Hollywood Reporter, Ray, starring best actor Oscar nominee Jamie Foxx, sold more than 4 million combined DVD and VHS units during its first week in release, generating nearly $80 million in consumer spending and surpassing the biopic's $74 million domestic boxoffice take, industry sources said. Nielsen VideoScan ranked Ray the nation's No. 1 best-selling DVD on its First Alert DVD sales chart, with the film's limited-edition DVD also coming in at No. 11 during the same weekly frame.

Ray, which has received six Oscar nominations, including best picture and a best director nomination for Taylor Hackford, generated more than $40 million in total consumer spending during its first day in release on home video.

Sony's The Grudge, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, followed up in the #2 slot on the sales charts and was the nation's No. 1 rental title for the week ending February 6, generating $9.24 million.

Ray was released October 29th, 2004 and stars Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington, Regina King, Clifton Powell, Harry Lennix, Bokeem Woodbine, Aunjanue Ellis, Sharon Warren. The film is directed by Taylor Hackford.
