Beth Raymer has sold the rights to her gambling memoir Lay the Favorite, Take the Dog to Random House Films and Focus Features for a big screen adaptation. According to Variety, the two film companies will partner on all stages of development with the project.

The story follows the adventures of Raymer as she steadily sinks into the world of professional sports gambling. She started out as a cocktail waitress hoping to make some fast cash. Soon, her gambling addiction led her to New York and the Caribbean, and her fellow gamblers became like a second family to her. After she fell in love, she was forced to rethink her entire life up until that point.

Producer Julie Grau stated, "Beth Raymer has that extremely fortunate and rare combination of having lived through some extraordinary times and having the means to write about them with assurance and style. The world she opens up to her readers is fascinating, dangerous, memorable, and terrifically funny."

The film does not have a set start date at this time.
