Rachel Weisz has taken herself off the action/adventure, The Mummy 3 for Universal Pictures, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The Oscar-winning actress has opted not to join her returning co-star Brendan Fraser in the film, which Variety is reporting has officially signed on. The third installment of the series takes place in China, and will introduce Jet Li as the villain; Rob Cohen is directing.

The studio cited scheduling conflicts for Weisz's decision not to reprise her role. The Mummy 3 is set for a July 11, 2008 release.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor was released August 1st, 2008 and stars Brendan Fraser, Jet Li, Maria Bello, John Hannah, Michelle Yeoh, Luke Ford, Isabella Leong, Anthony Wong Chau-Sang. The film is directed by Rob Cohen.
