Here is Rachelle Lefevre's statement about why she was recast.
"I was stunned by Summit's decision to recast the role of Victoria for 'Eclipse. I was fully committed to the Twilight Saga saga, and to the portrayal of Victoria. I turned down several other film opportunities and, in accordance with my contractual rights, accepted only roles that would involve very short shooting schedules. My commitment to Barney's Version is only ten days. Summit picked up my option for Eclipse. Although the production schedule for Eclipse is over three months long, Summit said they had a conflict during those ten days and would not accommodate me. Given the length of filming for Eclipse never did I fathom I would lose the role over a 10 day overlap. I was happy with my contract with Summit and was fully prepared to continue to honor it. Summit chose simply to recast the part."
"I am greatly saddened that I will not get to complete my portrayal of Victoria for the Twilight audience. This is a story, a theatrical journey and a character that I truly love and about which I am very passionate. I will be forever grateful to the fan support and loyalty I've received since being cast for this role, and I am hurt deeply by Summit's surprising decision to move on without me. I wish the cast and crew of Eclipse only the very best."

Here is Summit Entertainment's rebuttal:
We at Summit Entertainment are disappointed by Rachelle Lefevre's recent comments which attempt to make her career choices the fault of the Studio. Her decision to discuss her version of the scheduling challenges publicly has forced the Studio to set the record straight and correct the facts.
- Ms. Lefevre's representatives were advised as early as April that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse was expected to start shooting in early August.
- If Ms. Lefevre was, as she describes "passionate," about being part of The Twilight Saga, we feel that she and her representatives would have included us in her decision to work on another film that would conflict with the shooting schedule of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.
- It was not until July 20th that Summit was first informed of Ms. Lefevre's commitment to Barney's Version, a commitment we have since been advised she accepted in early June. Summit had acted in good faith that she would be available to fulfill her obligations both in terms of rehearsals and shooting availability for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. We feel that her choice to withhold her scheduling conflict information from us can be viewed as a lack of cooperative spirit which affected the entire production.
- Furthermore Ms. Lefevre took a role in the other film that places her in Europe during the required rehearsal time, and at least ten days of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse's principal photography. This period is essential for both rehearsal time with the cast, and for filming at key locations that are only available during the initial part of production.
- Contrary to Ms. Lefevre's statement, it is simply untrue that the Studio dismissed her over a ten day overlap. It is not about a ten day overlap, but instead about the fact that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is an ensemble production that has to accommodate the schedules of numerous actors while respecting the established creative vision of the filmmaker and most importantly the story.
The fact remains that Ms. Lefevre's commitment to the other project - which she chose to withhold from Summit until the last possible moment - makes her unfortunately unavailable to perform the role of Victoria in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

Rachelle Lefevre will be starring in Barney's Version with Paul Giamotti and Dustin Hoffman in 2010. So Summit Entertainment, you can bite me.

This is NEPATISM at its BEST. Rachel, who did a GREAT job as Victoria was cast aside at the dropping of a crumb of any ecuse because Ron Howard's daughter "actress" Bryce Howard went "WAHHHHHH I want to act with Rob Pattinson WAHHHHHH I want to be in Twilight Daddy NOW, I want the golden goose NOW Daddy NOW!!!!" So Ron made a few phone calls, and BAM, Victoria is recast, and little wittle Brycie gets one more plum shoved in her mouth in her plum life, eat up Bryce, you SUCK, you and others like you suck the waste in this exciting world, you are the opposite of the romance and intrigue that Twilight stands for, and in appearing in its movie version, you scrape a piece of the luster off this Summitt jewel. SHAME on you Summitt execs, you're already F***ing it up more, first Catherine is axed for that MORON who directed that IDIOCY "The Golden Compass" like ANYONE saw that mess of a movie, then you cast Dakota Fanning, what a joke, is there a comedic part to New Moon I was unaware of in the book?? ....and then this...what's next? Zac Efron as Edward?? A**holes...

Foy, what the f*ck are you talking about? This is a movie site. I can state my complaints, as long as I explain them. I didn't say they were terrible, just the fact that they were weak and I hope they get better. also, this is about New Moon, not Twilight so yeah. The only reason I bring up Twilight is so that I can compare etc. But I guess you have a point...

Sh*tty ... It seeems these films had nothing but 1 probem after another .. It seems that the cast never sticks around!!
I don't think there is a scheduling conflict. They made scheduling conflicts work for Cam Gigandet (James) and Elizabeth Reaser (Esme) was filling a tv show and they worked around it.
What a coincident the find Ron Howards daughter. She does not fit the role.
Also Summit did it to director catherine hardwicke, then talked about replacing Taylor Lautner and now this!

I suppose its pretty understandable
considering Hollywood has to make much more difficult decisions b/c of the economy
most actors cant stay on to certain films, and others just need an extra pay
for the Twilight fans this seems like a big blow
Bryce Dallas Howard's an unusual choice to me
Summit almost brags that they can make anything they want with no complaints
but really some studios should consider what they do in terms of filming a movie

Facts are simple. A actor is not required to tell any studio about their possiable contracting of other roles in other films. The only time this is required is if the actor knows one shooting date, and lets the other studio know to make the schedual for her shooting around her contract for "both" films. Summit in this is no dout trying to cover up their poor dession making in this, but blame Rachelle. Rachelle may have had a small role into this deal, but to say she was the soul reason, due to her making contracts to be in other films during times of the filming of Eclipse is a idiots way of lieing. How many other "stars" are doing two, or even three films at the same time? Some time the rols is small in the second and third films, some time they are not. But the fact remains that Summit has coused a "HUGE" negative backlash with the fans of this serise, and need to re-think things before they screw the pouch to much more.....

I still think that rachel should play the part, she is so good at it.
through twilight, she gave an over-the-top preformance. and i am sure, if she actually did act the small part she has in new moon she would indeed have a stunning performance as Victoria. this is a huge disappointment to hear about.

Maybe it would be fitting if the Author of the series pulled the movie rights from Summit. Then Summit might know how this feels to do it to even ONE person...No matter what there schedule.

i hate Twilight. But even I know *sshole studio moves when I see it. Bryce Dallas Howard is a name. They found any slight excuse to give this Rachel chick the boot for Howard to get in.
*sigh*
This is what happens when a company that makes crappy movies (Never Back Down) gets a whole lot of money fast. They think they own the world. Sucks to be a Twilight fan.....good thing I'm not.
