20th Century Fox has confirmed they are in development on a sequel to Prometheus, with director Ridley Scott and stars Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace set to return. Here's what Fox production president Emma Watts had to say about the follow-up.

"Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can't rush it."

The studio is currently in talks with new writers to draft the sequel. Damon Lindelof, who wrote the original, may not be available to work on the follow-up, due to his involvement with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and several other projects.

Fox is looking at releasing the sequel in either 2014 or 2015.

Prometheus was released June 8th, 2012 and stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, Logan Marshall-Green, Sean Harris, Rafe Spall. The film is directed by Ridley Scott.

Yes! I was afraid it might not have grossed enough to make Fox commit to a sequel.

@yannick-decorte Really? Sequels nowadays usually fare much better than their first entry. It's cus people who missed the first one in theaters get a chance to catch it on DVD or TV and get more psyched for the second one...

@zeeman1 Or just a good story with good characters period. I think the Prometheus script not being good should be a fact, so I'll honestly be happy if Lindelof isn't a part of it. The guy has proved time and time again that he was in over his head and his usual defense is he likes stuff where there are mysteries and questions left unanswered. Yeah, I think we all do; script still has to be good though.

liked the first one, can't wait to see what they do next, but what's with Damon Lindelof doing work on Spiderman 2??

@jimthar Kind of. $300 mil. on a budget of $130 mil. at the box-office. I don't think it should get a bigger budget however. If anything, I think the sequel would fare worse than the first one.

Maybe the new writer could use the building blocks of Prometheus and actually deliver a coherent story?
