Ridley Scott will make Prometheus 2 in 2014 or 2015
"Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can't rush it."
The studio is currently in talks with new writers to draft the sequel. Damon Lindelof, who wrote the original, may not be available to work on the follow-up, due to his involvement with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and several other projects.
Fox is looking at releasing the sequel in either 2014 or 2015.
Prometheus was released June 8th, 2012 and stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, Logan Marshall-Green, Sean Harris, Rafe Spall. The film is directed by Ridley Scott.

It sounds to me that people expect to much, for those that enjoyed it helps in the long run. I like to enjoy any film and make my own judgement

@zender -- It really depends. Besides the script, everything else is very well-done. The acting is - at times - great, the entertainment value is there, the visual effects are wonderful, and there's a real sense of dread that fits appropriately(for the most part).

Meh. I'll go see it because I loved the first one, and if Scott comes back this is probably going to be good. But, like District 9, I think it's a great film that stands well on its own and doesn't need a sequel.
At any rate, he's faster at this sequel thing than Cameron is.

@moviemouse That would be interesting to get to see, if that is what will be shown in the Prometheus sequel.

YES! this needs a sequel to tie in between Prometheus and the first alien

prometheus was what it was, and i enjoyed it for that. if scott could have gotten the money he wanted maybe it could have been better, but i still liked it alot, and i still and probably will always feel that lindelof is a good writer, who misses here and there, but so does everyone. plus i'm a huge lost fan.

Sir Ridley Scott should have Roland Shusett, whom for those who dont know who Roland Shusett is, he is one of the original co-writers of Alien 1979 film along with Dan O'bannon, if Sir Scott does bring him back, then it'll be great to have the original writer for the movie "Paradise".

Oh really? That's horrible. I think most people don't want to see a sequel on this movie especially one made by Scott. Damon may be taking most of the blame, but Ridley had ultimate control and blew it. I would rather see AVP3 than Prometheus 2 at this point. Very lame news!

I really don't care for a sequel. We are trailing away from Alien. I understand why Ridley did what he did, but there were too many facts connecting it to Alien. And without giving anything away, I was disaponted to find out (but we really know is wasn't originally ) a guy in a space suit. Prometheus 2: Noomy Rapace and Michael Fasbender arrive at the other alein homeworld....Boom! The end. I'm going to pretend it never happened.

No, you rash antagoniser, I'm bitching because IT ISN'T a good film. I didn't want another ALIEN; I wanted a film that carried on its legacy in a consistent, cohesive way. I didn't want an elementary-grade story with a constant barrage of plot holes; terrible, expository dialogue and stereotypical "characters" who literally appear and disappear at the drop of a hat--if it serves the writers' convenience. Prometheus looks gorgeous and sounds good, but I find it unbelievable that so many people have a complete and utter lack of appreciation for proper storytelling and characterization. That people such as yourself--feel so offended when others point out there flaws that they act as irate children. Do other films have problems? Of course. Do they wear them as a badge of honor like Prometheus? No. I wanted a solid science fiction film that paved new ground in the realm of Alien. Ridley and his crew had all the time, all of the money, all of the A-list casting, all of the technology, EVERYTHING at their disposal, and they still managed to craft something that was so unbelievably immature in its thematic execution that I find it to be not a bad Alien-related film; just a bad film. So, keep your brash remarks tucked awayand quit putting words in my mouth (as I never stated it "wasn't ALIEN enough").

That's great news! I'm not gonna lie, but Prometheus was somewhat underwhelming for me.
I wasn't hugely disappointed, I thought it was still a great movie, enjoyable to watch and ridiculously pretty and well directed/produced.
I just had REALLY high hopes for the movie (not sure why, guess I like Ridley Scott that much) and I was worried the movie wouldn't do well enough to warrant a sequel (it wasn't a blockbuster, but I guess it made enough return).
Can't wait!

Wait, so is Promethus 2's story/plot going take place after the movies Aliens from 1986 and Alien from 1979 or before them like Promethus story/plot ?

@incmob@youngrizo 100% agreed.
@bryanyentz Seriously? You're still bitching that this wasn't "Alien" enough? It's a stand-alone film, grow up already.
@thedude-abides Also agreed, I hope his new Blade Runner movie comes out before this... It would be really cool (and cost efficient) if he shot Prometheus 2 and 3 back to back).

Exactly. One guy who wrote about invisible alien orbs of electricity in Russia. And another guy who came up with an idea which was susp*ciously like a certain miniseries which predated it on the Scy-Fy Channel. Not to mention that it took him six years for EVEN HIM to sort of/kind of realize what kind of story he was trying to tell.

@bryanyentz -- They got the writer of Lost, and the writer from "The Darkest Hour" to write a screenplay for "Prometheus". If that's not f*cked up, I don't know what is.

"We have to get it right. . . We can't rush it."
I'm sure the rest of the statement went something like this. . .
". . . "We have to get it right. We can't rush it. I mean, with the first film, we had no idea what we were doing. We first hired a handful of third-graders with no knowldege of either ALIEN or science fiction as a genre and literally strapped giant rocks to each of their hands. We then had them pound away on keyboards for hours. The result was a script that made no sense; it was unreadable. I mean, we had two legitimate screenwriters come in to "smooth" it out, but they loved the lack of cohesion and grammatical errors so much that they brought it to Ridley. The next day we started shooting. This time, however, I'm hoping we get writers that know what they're doing; like fourth graders with a love of Twilight and then take. . . Um. . . At least two days to write it this time. At least."

It's odd for me still seeing fellow moviegoers who apparently follow movie news and information as much as I do, continue to heckle Lindelof, the guy wrote the script the way Ridley wanted him to.
This has been discussed by both him and Ridley on countless occasions. There are at least 2 interviews with both of them where they discuss the process they had for writing the script. The point was to raise question and leave them largely unanswered so that people would think on these things. Ridley didn't want to outright give you all the answers, or outright explain every single thing. To the extent that Lindelof would write scenes one way and Ridley would say "No, take that out" like the opening scene with the engineer, initially in Damon's script before he discussed it more with Ridley, he had it reveal the planet they were on, something Ridley wanted to leave to people to think about.
Anyway, that aside, I thought Prometheus was brilliant. It had writing that put some smart characters in situations where they made stupid decisions but that was part of the structure, it like 99 percent of stories is a story that is driven by people making half-c*cked decisions, and the problems they create for themselves in doing so.
I can't wait to see where this goes.

i really dont care how much money it made or inconsistencies, continuity or holes... I enjoyed prometheus... If you consider it part of the alien mythos and a prequel or just a standalone, it was in my opinion a very strong film. entertaining at least for me, and was a great twist on what could have just been another cash cow and milking an already done franchise. Cant wait for a second prometheus and glad scott is going forward with this.
