Fox releases brief Prometheus synopsis in response to a fake plot rundown
"Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life's ultimate mystery."
Here is the bogus plot synopsis, which the 20th Century Fox representative described as, "way off," compared to the actual story. Even though this isn't the actual Prometheus story line, you can take a look at this fake plot description below.
"Earth. Year 2058.
Archaeological digs in Africa reveal alien artifacts that humans were genetically engineered by a advanced alien race (space jockeys). These "Alien Gods" also terraformed Earth in order to make it habitable for their human creations. Amongst finds are coordinates to the Alien God's home-world, to Paradise. Months later the Weyland Corp launch the spaceship Prometheus and his crew, into deep space to make first contact. Thanks to faster than light travel a few years later the Prometheus enters the Zeta Riticuli star system. Humans are greeted by their makers, then transported further into space to a scary yet fascinating world. The Alien Gods are proud of their "children", their first creation to reach such levels of intelligence.
As a reward they share bits of their astonishing bio-based technologies with the humans. But for one crew member of the Prometheus it's not enough. In a treacherous act he steals the "bio-source code" to Terraforming, a technology at the origin of all Gods' power, that could make humans equal to the gods. The Alien Gods may be scientists but are also ruthless conquerors, destroyers of worlds who will not accept humans as equals. They unleash on the escaping human crew their favorite bio-weapon, a creature used to "clean up" worlds before colonization. But something goes wrong in the process and humans manage to turn the bio-weapon against their makers. Giving birth to a smarter, nastier, bigger breed of gut eating creatures. Creatures that will be the demise of Paradise. What's left of the Prometheus crew manages to escape the doomed planet.
On their trail a survivor Alien God in very familiar ship with one ultimate mission.

The fake one sounds fake, it's proper fan-fiction stuff. Really looking forward to this film! I'm glad they're not giving much away, I think the film will be more fun with a big element of mystery to it

Wow, this is going to be amazing! Ridley Scott returning to Sci-fi = AWESOME!
Sure the "official synopsis" is vague....but who expected it not to be? I dont know what to make of the "fake" one.....I could see some of that, if not all of it, ending up in the film. But then again, who the hell knows? Either way, I can't wait!
By the way, anyone who hasn't watched the interview with Damon Lindelof on the Kevin Pollak show.....do it NOW. It is great and very informative.

Also, it really came down to the decisions of just a few men during the cuban missile crisis. If they had made different choices.....well, not all of us would be here right now.
When it comes to things like that, anything is possible. Never underestimate the limits of a determined human being......those limits apply to good AND evil.

yeah their "official synopsis" really doesn't tell us sh*t now does it? they gave us one bogus synopsis to write off another. could they be any more vague in their 3 sentence description of the movie? "a group of people will be stranded on a distant world and teted to their limits". NO SH*T, REALLY?!! thanks for that bit of enlightening information on the alien franchise. i dont think anyone here would have ever guessed that was what the movie was about. whew! dodged a bullet there!

Why are they selling us a story about a movie and give us a 'fake plot'? I do like the second paragraph about stealing the 'source-code' and the unleashment of what I believe are aliens, and that one sentence: 'On their trail, a surviving Space Jockey in a very familiar ship with one ultimate mission' We all know what happens there :) But the whole Jockeys created the human race story line seems dumb, the rest, amazing.

I love the movie plot..... BUT, its hard to take in the fact of one bad apple all but sets up the end of the human race....lol.. Not.. lol.. But realy, Just seams like a great story, but again has me second question things abit. Like Adam and Eve with the tree of Wisdom story.

@dan1@moviegeek@narrator: Notice how the "bogus" synopsis sounds more like the real one as the alleged true one is more of a concept rather than a plot synopsis. And not to mention that this "bogus" synopsis was floated several months ago by the screenwriters themselves. Furthermore, the greek mythological character 'prometheus' is credited with giving mankind fire, thus playing a pivotal role in the rise of mankind, and was then punished for it by God (Zeus). So yeah, the studio sounds like they're lying to save face. For this fake synopsis matches up almost too nicely.
