Ridley Scott's Prometheus shifts to June 8, 2012 release date
We reported a few weeks ago that the project, which was originally set to become a prequel to the 1979 classic Alien, had changed its title to Prometheus and set a March 9, 2012 release date. Just a week later, we reported that Disney moved John Carter of Mars from its June 8, 2012 release to March 9, 2012, putting it in direct competition with Prometheus and leaving the June 8, 2012 slot open, until today. Fox's Prometheus is currently the only movie slated for release on June 8, 2012.
Ridley Scott will direct Prometheus from a script he is co-writing with Damon Lindelof. Jon Spaihts wrote the first draft of the script.
That initial report from two weeks ago also confirmed that Noomi Rapace is starring in Prometheus as Elizabeth Shaw. No other cast members have been announced yet, although Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron are said to be circling the role of Vickers.
Prometheus comes to theaters June 8th, 2012 and stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Logan Marshall-Green, Guy Pearce. The film is directed by Ridley Scott.

@Shelly Allbright - What? Are you an idiot?
You dont trust Ridley Scott? The guy who has made some of the most influential, game changing films in history? Ok, well, I'm glad the decision making process of hiring directors isn't up to you.

The last time Riddley Scott named a movie after the main character looked what happened "Robin Hood". Glad to see the name Prometheus and not Alien, Alien the Beginning, First Alien ever , Alien revenge etc.

@K-Man: Totally with you on that! Two hard R's all the way!!! It would be nice to get confirmation on both counts. Given how previous news stories made the project sound so big, and how much of a caveat the studio had over Ridley's requests, then I doubt he'd go along totally with their wishes, as money I can't imagine would be much of a bribe for him anymore. :P So hopefully they game him at least one of the two, being either Hard R's or Two films. Hopefully both!!!! For rarely do the original team players reteam for a prequel of all things in such a genre. Can't wait for trailers of this, though still cautiously optomistic.

By the way, my question about Prometheus is: Will it still be two parts or not? When it was an official "Alien" prequel we were getting two films, they haven't mentioned if that is still the plan even though the story has changed a bit. Also, will it be PG-13 or R?? They never came to a conclusion about that either.
I say keep two films and have them both be Hard R!!

@Narrator: "Iron Man 3" is actually out in May 2013.
@Rudy: It's "John Carter of Mars," not Carpenter. That'd give a whole different outlook! :P
"Prometheus" being changed to a summer film isn't the type of decision to be taken lightly by the studio. They must believe they can compete with the major summer blockbusters, otherwise with the extremely heavy hitters for that summer, then it'd be a safer bet to remain in conjunction with a March 9th release date, meager competition or not. Both titles seem to be garnering the same box office in regards to track records of prequels made by the original directors and first shot adaptations of beloved books.
