Prometheus End Credits Lead to New Viral Video and Website

Director Ridley Scott's Prometheus hit theaters this weekend, opening with an impressive $50 million over its first three days. During the months leading up to its release, we reported several times on this sci-fi thriller's viral campaign, which is still alive and kicking. Fans who stayed until the very end of the credits saw this cryptic image, with the website WeylandIndustries.com/Timeline.

Weyland Industries Prometheus

The timeline notes that October 11, 2012 (10/11/12) was the date Weyland Industries was set up as a corporation. It was also discovered that date leads to a brand new viral website, WhatIs101112.com. That site features a description of the Friedrich Nietzsche book Thus Spoke Zarathrustra: A Book for All and None, and a video of Guy Pearce's Peter Weyland reciting from the book, "I am a law only for my kind, I am no law for all." Take a look at the brief video and a description of the book from this viral site.

"Thus Spoke Zarathustra: A Book for All and None is a philosophical novel by German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, composed in four parts between 1883 and 1885. Much of the work deals with ideas such as the "eternal recurrence of the same", the parable on the "death of God", and the "prophecy" of the Übermensch, which were first introduced in The Gay Science."

We aren't quite sure what the connection is between this philosophical book and the sci-fi thriller, or what the date 10/11/12 means. October 11, 2012 very well could be when Prometheus is released on Blu-ray and DVD, although that has not been confirmed. That date is also the first day of New York Comic-Con.

Prometheus was released June 8th, 2012 and stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, Logan Marshall-Green, Sean Harris, Rafe Spall. The film is directed by Ridley Scott.

    @incmob - Agreed.

People simply expected a sh*t load of action (meaning thrills) and a slice of theology. Instead, I expected a slower paced film with amazing effects and an ambiguous plot/moral. And guess what? I was disappointed.

It's all about expectations and reality. Since I was honest with myself going into the theater, I ended up loving it for what it was. While not on par with the likes of Alien or Blade Runner (the latter of which took 15 years to achieve the cult status is has today due to close-minded critics and audience members, which this film may very well replicate), Prometheus was still a solid blockbuster. It may have come off as languish to some, but that's their problem. Coming from one of the two head-writers of Lost, I knew this would be a split decision regarding whether or not the film was good. All that matters is that I enjoyed it and I hope the studio makes a second film sometime soon with Scott attached.

    @incmob
Yea that little 74% is why i went in the first place.
I never go see a movie if it gets like below 25 or something like that.
I Did read alot of reviews b4 seeing it. Even on this site there were lots of people who dissed it. but yea there were more who actually liked it. which is how i got confused becaues half like it and half dont.
So yea i went in with an open mind and it was just dumb, I seen better sify films than this1.
But yea each person has their own take on things, not everybody likes something others do.
I think yea people should go watch it that way we can hear their take on it.
i glad u liked it tho. maybe part2 would be better thats if they make1. :)

@jasonkat you read so many reviews?

    Rotten tomatoes: 74% 166 fresh/ 60 rotten... more than 50/50
Rotten tomatoes: audience 74% and a rating of 3.8 out of 5... more than 50/50
    Yahoo: 3.5 stars... 1,047 ratings
Movieweb users: 19 reviews... 93% favored.

just saying statistically a lot of people liked it... that is not basing it on box office performance but going off of your 50/50 theory.

personally i disagree with you and i say for those that have not seen it... make it a point before it is out of theaters.

there was about 30 people in the theater and none of em looked pleased when this movie ended, they looked like they just wasted 2 hours of their time. and after reading so many reviews on this b4 watching it. it was like 50/50, 50% loved it while 50 disliked it. So i had no idea who to believe, since alot of times people suck at rating a great film. sometimes they rate a bad movie 5 stars so its confusing as hell. lol
I think the ending b4 the ending was 4 stars, but as a whole.. i rate it 2 out of 5.

So i finally saw this movie today and i have to say, It was a BIG WASTE of time. Lucky for them i didnt walk out half way.
    its all a big mess.
Whoever actually rates this 5 stars,.. Something is wrong with you.
So many plotholes, unxplained things, Predictable stuff, I swear alot of what i saw is, sh*t i would never do. And half of you wouldnt either admit it .!
If you ask me the only good thing here was the special/fxs, nothing else.
its a slow movie with nothing til the last 45mins is when it starts to pick up. I think this movie makes "apollo 18" look like a masterpiece. (im not kidding).
Prometheus is one of those films where a group of idiots are in space not real professionals. its alot like that jasonX movie.
I really dunno what to say, Wont be getting it on dvd or bluray at all. and i bet the bluray will have other endings and maybe openings /deleted sences.
For those of you who havnt seen it yet.. SAVE ur money, go watch something else. or just wait til this movie hits bluray on oct 9th.

I really enjoyed the film, kept in touch to the steady story and suspense of the Ridley's Alien film. People are complaining theres not alot of action n such like the 2nd movie, thats cuz Ridley didn't do that one, James Cameron did, so I related Promehteus more to the first Alien.

Whatever! Movie was boring enough!! hell ...the film is scheduled for release on Blu-ray disc and DVD on October 9, 2012 in the USA!

more hype than what its worth. "Prometheus" did not live up to pre-release expectations.[

    I should have waited!.

Tad bit late, but you also failed to mention that Prometheus will be getting an extended director's cut on blu-ray and dvd.

As well that there will apparently be another 4 post viral videos for the www.whatis101112.com site
