Good news about extras. It's interesting how much official behind the scenes stuff is available but never released (must be George Lucas thing). I've put together 2 DVDs with unreleased materials and the 3rd one is in the making! Almost NONE of this looks like it's going to be released, which includes 3 TV specials (T4, Movie Juice and Sky Movies) and 11 featurettes. Go figure...

@2movieguys -- You hated "Prometheus", but you loved "AVPR: Aliens vs Predator - Requiem"? How valid.

I'm a big fan of the way Lindelof writes his stories. Yes, there is some messiness and everything is not spelled out clearly, which can be taken as a weakness, but I don't think one of his flaws is in setting up big philosophical questions and not answering them. Movies are meant to ask questions, to get us thinking and talking, not to solve problems. That's what math is for.

I will Definitely be picking this one up. This film let down a fair bit....BUT it was still a fantastic original sci-fi film. By the end of the film, I was almost wishing that they had taken out the last shot of the movie and NOT had it "tie" in with the Alien franchise and let it just be it's own film.
The problem from the beginning, at least for me, was that my expectations were higher than any film I can remember for the past decade....or at least since the last Lord of the Rings film. The fact that Alien and Aliens are two of my all time favorite films didn't help either!! So, regardless of what I saw, it was unlikely to meet my expectations.
HOWEVER, having said that, there were SO many things that could have been improved on....NONE of which were Ridley Scott's fault because this film is absolutely PERFECTLY directed. Probably the best directed film I've seen since...well, probably Kingdom of Heaven.
The problems were in the writing and the pacing. This is a film that SHOULD have been 3 hours+......Not 2 hours!! What in God's name were the studios thinking??? This film attempts to answer some of the most profound questions in human history, or at least touch upon them, and you want to do that in 2 hours??? Yet, the Dark Knight Rises gets 2 hours and 45 minutes? (Rightfully so, by the way....but for the sake of this argument, I'm using that as an example.)
Now, I'm fully aware that Ridley Scott had more to the story in his head/written out and he intentionally held back some of the answers for a sequel.....but this film was meant to answer questions....not leave you with a hundred more. For this, I actually blame Damon Lindelof. The guy comes up with brilliant ideas but never, ever seems to capitalize on them. He just leaves you either hanging without an answer or disappointed by the result.
The other problem, aside from the "questions" it leaves you with, is the character development and character decisions. While a couple characters, like David, are so brilliantly executed, almost to the point of being academy award worthy, so many other characters like Fifield, Millburn, The scottish girl and most importantly Weyland, Captain Janek, the two co-pilots (most of all) and even Meredith Vickers were so underdeveloped that it was baffling.
I'm not trying to write a review here (although, I still need to do that!)
The point is: I am really, REALLY hoping for a Director's Cut that has AT LEAST 45 minutes of extra footage incorporated into the film to help improve on some of these things. That way, at the end of the movie, we might feel a little more satisfied. I want the film to slow down a little bit and take it's time, like so many of Ridley's other films.
Now, again, even though it probably sounded like I bashing the film and being very harsh toward it, I actually wasn't. Sure this film had issues....but most films do!
I actually really enjoyed this film! I saw it 4 times in the theaters....but the issues in this particular movie can be improved on....and I'd bet my life Ridley has the footage to do so!
Ridley Scott is, hands down, the best at "director's cut's", so I'm hoping he decides to pull out some real magic here and give us the version we really want to see!
By the way, I dont know about the rest of you....but I cant wait to see what Ridley does with Prometheus 2, which I would bet my life will be called Paradise....and the Blade Runner sequel.
@skywise, @shuabert, @dan1 - Yup, The Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut is friggin amazing. Without question one of Ridley's best films and DEFINITELY the most underrated film of 2005. How that film managed to go under the radar is beyond me....even in the theatrical cut. Same goes for Blade Runner.

I should have waited and just rented "Prometheus"..! Not that great of a film. Nothing to jump up and down and shout about.
More hype than what it was worth.

@dan1 I wasnt to fond of Kingdom of Heaven until I watched the directors cut.
@shuabert the BR directors cut is far and above the original cut. one big thing for me was the excision of Harrisons droning narration. Its a small thing but it works much much better without.

@dan1 A great example of a cut that made a good movie out of a mediocre one.
And Blade Runner Final Cut is still perfection.
