Production has begun on Guy Louthan's behind-the-scenes comedy, The Independent; Louthan's directing and producing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Neil Monaghan.

Set in the world of an indie film, the flick stars Jennifer Tilly and Joey Slotnick; Drew Katz is exec producing. Variety says it centers on a producer who's given the chance to realize his dream project of filming an adaptation of an obscure Victorian novel, The Tides of Reason. The producer agrees to the demands of his illegitimate financiers that the production be filmed entirely in Romania to take advantage of a suspicious tax deal.

The film also stars Jason Flemyng, Nicolas Le Prevost, Joe Shaw, and Steve Nicholson; no release date has been scheduled for The Independent.
