Producers Pick Up House of Night

Producers Michael Birnbaum and Jeremiah Chechik have ponied up some dollars for screen rights to the House of Night, a series of nine young adult novels by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast.

According to Variety, the series was published by St. Martin's Griffin, and just reached its fourth installment with the recently released "Untamed."

House of Night takes the vampire myth in a -esque direction. In the series, "vampyres" are accepted in society; they possess a genetic anomaly that manifests itself in some people at puberty. Vampyres are "marked" and sent to the House of Night, a school that offers training necessary to become an adult vampyre.

The story centers on Zoey Redbird, whose ordinary life is thrown into disarray when she becomes a vampyre and must change schools and enter a brand new world.

"P.C. and Kristin Cast created a thrilling world that juxtaposes teen drama with supernatural suspense, using the transition from human to vampire as a metaphor for the transition from adolescence to adulthood," Birnbaum said.

Exactly, I'm fine with this stuff being out there, but I hate how serious people get about it when it's not even literature.

I am not judging it at all, I am sure it is a wonderful series for the younger generation. I tried to read the Twilight series but never could get into them because of the age of the main characters. My daughter on the other hand loved it and wanted the entire series. I did not want to read any more than the first one.

I can't wait for Cirque Du Freak to come out next year. I loved the series. I just wish Willem Dafoe was playing the vampire lead. Instead he's playing a supporting character.

mmm...It's romanticised vampirism. Anne Rice perfected it, anything else is just crap. It seems to me that there are only two kinds of Vampire movie out there: the kind with good-looking charming vampires tittilating young mid-pubescent girls, and the kind with mindless savage Vampires. Say what you will about the Lost Boys (and Underworld, though I don't think it matters much because that movie isn't about being a vampire, it's about being i a family feud) being cheesy, at east they tried to meet the genre in the middle. Dracula is another good one. Give me a movie where the vampire is smart, handsome/pretty, charming, and has a heart as black as sky, cold-heartedly devouring every one he/she entertains. And don't you dare say Queen of THe Damned. THat one sucked big.

I have read the first book and the only thing twilight has in common is that they are teen vampires. You should read the book before judge it. I am too try of twilight clips it went out of control with all the screaming girls.

Please, I am begging you, not another teen/young adult based vampire movie. I almost can not stand just the one.
