Producer Wyck Godfrey Talks Gears of War

Twilight Saga producer Wyck Godfrey chatted with MakingOf about the upcoming Gears of War, heading to the big screen in 2010.

Directed by Len Wiseman, the film is based on Epic Games' award-winning video game, which thrusts players into humankind's epic battle for survival against the Locust Horde, a nightmarish race of creatures that surface from the bowels of the planet. The story unfolds as a ragtag group of soldiers use every last ounce of strength to survive the onslaught from the forces of evil, which begins on the historic Emergence Day.

Yeah, the second Creed is loads better than the first one. You can swim, the climbing techniques are better and it's more freedom. I highly recommend Assassin Creed 2.

I really didn't like Assassin's Creed, so I haven't bothered with number 2--though I do here it is quite improved. And yes, I know exactly what you mean by open-ended ending... Then again, I wouldn't even say Assassin's Creed even had an ending, just a moment of dialogue and a lot of questions. Like right after you discover that you can use that "Bird Vision" or whatever it was in the real world--cut to credits. The whole game just bothered me immensely. You practically do the same three or so missions the entire game, and nothing worked as it should of. I didn't understand why I could trot past someone on a horse, but a gallop would make me a dead man. Or, if some vagrant attacks you, no one cares, but as soon as you so much as knock them over, all hell breaks lose. I did find the combat fun however and some of the assassinations were decent, but there were just SO many little things that created huge problems that I didn't find it any fun. The final fight even had me groaning as it was like a Mega Man finale where you have to fight all of the bosses again, and then multiple forms of the lead baddie... Ugh...

Lol, well if you dislike those endings, i take that you've haven't played any of the two Assassin Creed games. Great games but open ending.
But i really didn't care for Gears of War 2 much anyway, even before i started playing it. I was too much into Resistance 2.

Newkill, I agree, the last boss was a bit anti-climactic, but my problem was with the half-assed Scourge fight. That could have been epic, but it was just forgettable. But I was happy with the endning simply because I felt it brought some closure for a game intended as a bridge for the final installment. Too many games nowadays are all making f*cking trilogies, thus, they just leave the ending completely open (Halo: 2, Borderlands, etc), so I was just grateful that there was more of an ending and not just a, "To be continued" like deal. And while I LOVE the online play, it does suffer from some truly atrocious bugs. Even getting into a game can be a complete pain in the ass. That's something they REALLY need to clean up because on the one hand it can be immense fun, on the other it's only immense fun when it's actually working properly.

I don't know it's going to be a close call between Bioshock: 2 and God of War: 3. Although I favor Biosock more than the God of War series, I'm going to have to say God of War: 3 simply because people have waited longer for a true sequel since the last PS2 one hit (I'm not counting the PSP one--that's like a side-game to me, similar to Silent Hill: Origins). Thus, I think you have more people anticipating it than you ol' Bioshock. Personally, I'm looking forward to Mass Effect: 2, Army of Two: The 40th Day, Bayonetta, Darksiders, the new Castlevania, and The Last Guardian--those last two especially look f*cking amazing.

Gears of the War 2 kind of disappointed me because it suffered from the same problems of the first Gears of war.The last boss is a complete joke and the ending feels just too abrupt, and that there were some bugs in the online play.

So, in other words they want to adapt the film EXACTLY as it's depicted and structured in both Gears of War games... Well, as long as they actually pay attention to what the game has already accomplished on both a technical and narrative level, they should be alright... Should be.
