Producer Ryan Kavanaugh on The Crow Reboot

iO9 reports that The Crow reboot is happening, even if it has yet to garner a greenlight. The film will be written and directed by Stephen Norrington.

They recently sat down with the project's producer Ryan Kavanaugh. In regards to the current script he stated:

The script is great. We're very excited about it. The Crow is definitely going to happen, we're just getting all the pieces together right now. It's not officially greenlit, but it's going to happen... I think in a couple months we could have the package together for sure.

Kavanaugh also talked about the makeup that will be worn by this film's title character:

No, totally different... He'll have makeup, but it will be different. The best way to compare it is the first Batman and Batman Begins. In terms of their look and feel and character.

We will have more information on this project as the story continues to develop.

The Crow was released May 11th, 1994 and stars Brandon Lee, Rochelle Davis, Ernie Hudson, Michael Wincott, Ling Bai, Sofia Shinas, Anna Levine, David Patrick Kelly. The film is directed by Alex Proyas.

they haven't decided yet if it's going to be a remake or sequel. It's up in the air at the moment.
Either way, I'll still watch it. I was reading about it yesterday before coming to this site. Personally I find it's pointless to remake certain films.

I totally agree with you bane5000. Without saying a word you could just sense the characters dread and pain. With even the simple facial expression. The bleeding and crying and yet screaming heart of pain went though every scene of the movie. You just felt his sadness and vengeance in it. Even Brandon said in a interview how would a man being put though what he was behave. It was in my opinion and it wont ever change the best love and tragic story ever told and all about true justice. And i agree with Pandora000 the make up was the character. The looks meant something to him in a beautiful memory. Showing in a flash back a time of joy and laughter. It just suck he like heath ledger died. But oddly they both in death made a massive impact on their last films. To do this would be disrespectful to him memory. Some can say im nuts but that's what i believe

In a reboot, I imagined he'd look like Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Never been a fan of the series but I've seen the first simply because Brandon Lee is Bruce Lee's son. I would see this though but I'd have to see a trailer first.

ill sign that petition to if u start it, there have been many crow films, but all were over shadowed by the first due to, once again , an actors great performance yet tragic death during the film.

the first had so much heart that the message of the film and what the character was going through got through to everyone, the sequels were just re hashes of the original that didint really get the same point across

i feel this one is gonna be the same way, just another chapter in the series without the passion the first one held

There remaking this movie and they refuse to make the character Eric Draven wear the signature makeup??? I sense this will be a FAIL...im dissapointed..

if someone start a petition i will definably sign it to stop this film from being made. And yes i get its a story made in different installments but besides the original with Brandon Lee which was an instant classic the other one's were just embarrassing,

  8. Null and Void.

I have only seen ONE film this year that had a smart, original idea. And that film was "Inglourious Basterds".

We are in a disgusting age in cinema and we need to get out.

To quote 'Dawn of the Dead' (2004) producer Eric Newman: "George Romero made a perfect film and we just wanted to do our version of it." What is the point?

But, then again, that film was amazing.

I agree with Remy72883...I said it before and I'll say it again, The Crow is Brandon Lee, nothing can change that and nothing will...

Sam Worthington is a start. I'm sure they will find someone else that fits the part better, but I just cant think of any right now.

Demolition Man is being redone by someone else and Judge Dredd will be remade as well. Sly is suppose to have a cameo in both films.

I've never seen the Crow films except the TV series and the one with David Boreannis - not sure. He wasn't right for the part, he over played the character.

If you really think about it the crow movies haven't really been sequels. Just different installments to the franchise, each one tells it's own story separately from the rest.

AnnoyingFilmCritic. What's the difference between a reboot and remake?

Quite frankly I do not see any difference.

I tell you one thing.I may just start up a petition to stop this travesty from occuring.

2 things i have to say. 1 the original with Brandon Lee like i have said dozens of times is the best and will never be beaten no matter how big the budget or anything. And 2 i bet 100 bucks this one is gonna blow.

Ok...first, this is a Reboot, not a remake of the original, of which, I'm a big fan. Not many action movies have such character development & heart...a visceral pull that anchors all of the action bombast. I digress...secondly, Comrade, there are no plot points alluded to, so, there can't be any judgement on whether this will be another goth/punisher ripoff...all that is said is, that the look & feel comparison of Batman1 & Begins is manifest.

That part sounds good...now, we'll all have to wait and see if the new screenplay is as good as is purported...and of course, that the all important new casting rings true.

Anybody have any suggestions for a new Crow lead actor? Who's the next, young, Johnny Depp type?

....how is this in any way in keeping with the tone of the Graphic Novel? He's just going to be a sh*tty punisher ripoff if they get their way...

The source material is about love, loss, and then nature of vengeance as an unholy, undesirable thing. It's not about an over-budgeted effects heavy killing spree. Tragedy, not Action Movie.
