Pokemon fans across America will be marking their calendars for a special limited engagement theatrical event this holiday season. The newest full-length Pokémon feature film, Pokémon the Movie: White--Victini and Zekrom, is coming to movie theater screens across the U.S. for one weekend only: December 3rd and 4th, 2011! As a special treat, fans can catch the debut of the movie's trailer this weekend, September 17th and 18th, on Pokemon.com immediately following an on-demand, online screening of the most recent feature-length movie, Pokémon--Zoroark: Master of Illusions.

The Pokémon Company International has partnered with innovative digital theatrical distribution company Cinedigm to share Pokémon the Movie: White--Victini and Zekrom with its devoted fans for this limited, one-weekend-only screening event in more than 300 digital theaters across the United States. Pokémon fans will catch all the action and find out whether Ash can awaken the Legendary Pokémon Zekrom to help him stop the misguided Damon and save the Victory Pokémon Victini! A complete list of participating theaters will be announced shortly.

"We are thrilled to provide fans an opportunity to see this exciting new Pokémon feature film on the big screen," said Jill Newhouse Calcaterra, Chief Marketing Officer at Cinedigm. "Pokémon fans are a passionate group and will truly relish seeing this film together."

"It's going to be a lot of fun for the entire Pokémon community to get together and watch Pokémon the Movie: White--Victini and Zekrom," said J.C. Smith, director of Consumer Marketing for The Pokémon Company International. "We're excited to be working with Cinedigm to make this special engagement possible across the country."

As part of a Pokémon first, Pokémon the Movie: White--Victini and Zekrom is one of two feature-length films debuting in December. Launch details about the second movie, Pokémon the Movie: Black--Victini and Reshiram, will be coming soon.

@ejk1 Your right, perhaps i was being a bit pessimistic. With the right talent behind the cameras anything can work. Your reference of the terrible Dragon Ball movie is spot on. It almost felt like a Syfy moie but with better FX...not much better but a little.

@Brizzy @skywise No to Death Note and Samurai Champloo for the same reason: You would have to either change it entirely. Yes, there is a Death Note film allegedly coming, but it will take place in America, and probably with a white actor playing Light. This begs the following questions: 1) Will he still be Light "Yagame," or Light Smith? and 2) IF Ryukk is a Shinigami, why is the story in America and not Japan? The answer to both questions is simple: Whitewashing. And Samurai Champloo would face the same thing. The shows I mentioned are ready made for American audiences. They are not featuring Japanese settings or characters only. This is key because I don't want the integrity of animes/mangas damaged by whitewashing (and if you don't think that will happen, look to Dragonball as evidence). @skywise I think the other shows could definitely benefit from long running TVshows or a movie series. Claymore and Trinity Blood animes for example did not have good finishes because the mangas were not finished. Yes the other shows are great, but anime is a niche genre; a live action treatment could give these great shows a new, vibrant life in front of new audiences.

....they are still making these things? I was a bit out of the age bracket for this show when it was on but even my nephew thought it was silly. No real story to be had but to each his own.

On the other hand it was my nephew that introduced me to Hellsing if that puts things into perspective at all.

@ejk1 I would also throw Samurai Champloo in there. Yes it would be a time piece but the characters were very edgy. Not to mention its the same director from Cowboy Bebop (which i absolutly adore)

Interesting that you put hellsing down there. While the animation was not the best it had a very unique and intruiging story. Trigun on the other hand i never got in to.

I thought the girl who lefpt thru time would make a good american movie if done right and Ghost in the Shell would b pretty sweet. Having said that, all those you and I mentioned are perfect the way they are. anime doe not transfer well to the big screen but Bebop and Ghost in the Shell certainly would.

Animes/Mangas that could (and maybe should) be made into AMerican films or TV shows:

    Cowboy Bebop
    Full Metal Alchemist/FMA Brotherhood.
    Wolf's Rain
    Trigun
    Hellsing
    Black Lagoon
    Baccano
    Claymore
    Trinity Blood
    Gungrave

Why these, and few others? Because unlike Bleach and Naruto, there is almost no whitewashing involved. Most of the characters in these animes/mangas are not Japanese, and neither is the setting. Unlike Pokemon or YuGiOh, the above stories could bring in adult audiences (hell, Black Lagoon and Hellsing are definitely R-rated, and a case could be made for the others to be so as well).

@bawnian-dexeus And question: Why is each new Pokemon movie with a new Pokemon has roar of certain Godzilla characters.

  22. ChiRep_1

@bawnian-dexeus The Pokemon name is too prominent in younger audiences, unfortunately we'll never ever see an edgy Pokemon film. Heck, they couldn't even make Green Lantern edgy, I'm starting to lose hope in Hollywood...

@moviewiz001 I always preferred the Yugioh movies that came with a bad-ass training card! =P

@ChiRep-1 Just think about for a second how it can go. One, the studio will literally make the live action film like that youtube parody, if you know what I mean. Two, they can really drop the cuteness of it all and give us some mature, bad ass animals. When you really think about it, the battles in real life must look like what two lions appear to be when they battle it out

  28. ChiRep_1

@bawnian-dexeus No doubt, but it'll make tons of money and likely start a franchise.... I actually miss the old movies, they had imagination which was more than enough for me at that age.
