Point Break remake announced by Alcon Entertainment
Financing and production company Alcon Entertainment is set to remake the classic 1991 action-thriller Point Break as a feature film for release by Warner Bros, its home studio, it was announced by Alcon co-founders and co-CEO's Broderick Johnson and Andrew A. Kosove.

Alcon principals Broderick Johnson and Andrew A. Kosove secured rights to the project the week of the original film's 20th anniversary from RGM Media, John McMurrick and Chris Taylor. Broderick Johnson and Andrew A. Kosove will produce along with Michael DeLuca, John Baldecchi, Chris Taylor and Kurt Wimmer, who also wrote the screenplay. RGM Media principal Devesh Chetty and investor John McMurrick, Chairman of Marloss Entertainment, will serve as Executive Producers.

The film is being fast tracked, with the filmmakers set to take the project out to directors soon.

The new version is set in the world of international extreme sports, and like the original involves an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring, but plot points beyond that have not been revealed by the filmmakers.

State Broderick Johnson and Andrew A. Kosove: "Who doesn't love the Kathryn Bigelow original and its pure heart-pounding action and thrills? Kurt Wimmer's take infuses the story and characters with new twists and settings. We're very excited to be in business with Kurt Wimmer, and Michael DeLuca, Chris Taylor, and John John Baldecchi."

Adds Michael DeLuca "Point Break wasn't just a film, it was a Zen meditation on testosterone fueled action and manhood in the late 20th century and we hope to create the same for the young 21st!"

In addition to the feature rights, Alcon has also secured television and gaming rights to Point Break.

The Kathryn Bigelow original, starring Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze and Gary Busey, was produced by Largo Entertainment and released by Fox. The film went on to become an instant classic and remains beloved by the youth culture around the world.

Point Break was released July 12th, 1991 and stars Patrick Swayze, Keanu Reeves, Gary Busey, Lori Petty, John C. McGinley, James LeGros, John Philbin, Bojesse Christopher. The film is directed by Kathryn Bigelow.

@shuabert ok let me clarify my "i wont watch remakes" point. i have no problem with a remake if it's a lesser known movie that people really dont know about and someone remakes it and makes it better. like MAN ON FIRE, for example. i had never even heard of the original until a year after the remake was out. i had no idea. but that turned out to be an awesome movie. MY PROBLEM is when they remake classic movies that they have no business remaking. now i respect your point on having an artist remake movies and all but, can anyone out there tell me that the new KARATE KID was anything more than garbage piled on top of garbage?? how about the new NIGHTMARE? FRIDAY? how's FOOTLOOSE and RED DAWN looking for you? yeah those look like sh*t too. these aren't remakes for the sake of art, they're bastard copies of classic movies that they know they can throw a bunch of no-name "actors" in and make money off of name recognition alone. the acting sucks, the writing sucks, and on and on. the studios are making them because they know they can be made for cheap and they'll make a ton of money off of them. these movies are considered CLASSICS for a reason. they captured something that you can never reproduce. EVER. even through "reinterpretation".
and weren't the original GIRL W/ THE DRAGON TATTOO movies in sweedish or something? isn't THAT the reason they are being remade? not for artistic interpretation. from what i've been told by people who have seen the originals, the new one looks exactly like them but in english. (though i have no idea how true that statement is)

I am officially sick of all these remakes. Point Break still holds up great and nothing would be gained by remaking it. F Hollywood and the mentally and morally bankrupt execs making these decisions.

@dcrock Ah, I stand corrected on my previous statement to @brian. Thanks for reminding me of that fact. It's been such a long time since I have seen PB, that I forgot the ending and Swayze's final "ride." Still, since there is no Swayze, or his character, I see no reason to add a sequel, or remake the original.

    9 months agoby @ejk1Flag

  26. dcrock

Swayze is dead in the movie anyways. But keanu could've been in a sequel. I don't like the idea of either anyways. Stop remaking these movies. If you want to remake something make sure it's a movie from at least 50 years ago. It's hard to find anything to watch anymore.
