A Nightmare on Elm Street
They've done Leatherface and John Rider and now Platinum Dunes will remake another horror icon as well. According to Bloody-Disgusting, Platinum Dunes has signed on to remake A Nightmare on Elm Street.

"We ARE doing the movie," producer Brad Fuller told the site. "We just closed the studio deal and we want to be filming by summer 2009. The script is being worked on now. We just came onto it so we are still figuring out what to do with the story."

Wesley Strick is writing the screenplay about the deranged Freddy Krueger, who haunts the dreams of young children and kills them in their sleep.

We'll keep you posted on any developments surrounding this remake.

A Nightmare on Elm Street was released April 30th, 2010 and stars Jackie Earle Haley, Kyle Gallner, Rooney Mara, Katie Cassidy, Thomas Dekker, Kellan Lutz, Clancy Brown, Connie Britton. The film is directed by Samuel Bayer.

hi j.a.ottley i beleive a new nightmare had no heart put into it just trying to get money from a franchise don't get me wrong a nice idea but fell short good attempt although another case of a film that should not of been rushed into just like rocky 5 lol, yet still better than i could do. i guess we can all criticise films but at the end of the day how many film have i write none, just like football fans we all seem to think we can do better lol.
and as far as the prequel i beleive they are now thinking about it.

I agree with you Dark Knight and i kind of disagree with you.

Classic being remade were being done long before Bay was on the scene, two opposition examples can be given of a good one (Carpenter's The Thing) and of a pretty Fing awful one (Alfred Hitchc*ck's Psycho Remake).

But Bay has been and is still being one of the main contriutors to these upcoming remakes and especially of the classic ones (Amityville, TCM, Hitcher, Friday, et cetera).
But here is the thing Platinum Dunes will keep remaking films like this because that is their goal, to recreate all the old classic horror films, with better effects and more budget but still kepping it low budget while still gaining profit.
Take a look at most of their production filmography in the horror genre, i'd be surprised if you find an original film.

Thanks for the correction angel and also kind of to killer for being very specific, considering they are the same person, (Shatner & Kirk).
I'm not a Trekkie, so i guess they were the same, but didn't wanna say anything just in the case i was inaccurate.

Why didn't you like New Nightmare, angel?
That is if you don't mind me asking.

I mean i agree i was a little disappointed because within the announcement of the production of Wes Craven stating that he was returning to the Nightmare Saga, everyone expected the longly awaited prequel, which that is where the rumours of the actual Kruger prequel began, with the announcement of the Kruger film that became 'New Nightmare' and i think it was with Valiant's comic that never finished entitled 'A Nightmare On Elm St: The Beginning'

Erm and to people that think Michael Myers mask is scary lol, erm not really.
The mask is basically Captain Kirk from Star Trek, but just with the eyes section cut-out, to reveal the killer's eyes, because psychologists believe that the eyes of a person, show who they really are and are the most intimidating and interesting feature on a person.

Well duh, of course, Michael Bay is producing considering he is the CEO of Platinum Dunes.
Same as he produced 'The Amityville Horror' Remake with Ryan Reynolds & also the upcoming 'Friday The 13th'
I think Bay plays as both a co and exec producer (well he is definately exec producer).

The TCM remake was good, but considering the original was considered quite graphically violent for its's time.

But anyone who thinks 'The Hitcher' Remake is better than the original, in the most briefest and bluntest way to place it...your pretty stupid (but then again everyone is privileged to their own opinion, weather we tend to disagree or agree).
The only great thing about 'The Hitcher' rehash, was Sean Bean.

But the same thing with Nightmare is the same as TCM.
The SFX in Nightmare were brilliant, cheap and effective for it's time in which come on the effects in Nightmare no one had seen anything like them before, and Nightmare 1 was a kind of low-budget horror film produced at 1.8 million dollars.

I agree on the people the ones stating that we should be remaking proper old films, not recent old films.
I mean films like that are round near the same age as 'The Day The Earth Stood Still' which from the remake to the original is i think approx 45yrs.
Nightmare is only like 24yrs ago.

Also for the person that brought up 'The Magnificent Seven' & 'Seven Samurai's' concept, good point on remakes.
Also to note that concept is the way remakes should be done, well not in all perspectives but you see the difference between the both of them despite they are remakes is one is from the Eastern side of Cinema (Seven Samurai's) and the other is from the Western side of Cinema (Magnificent Seven).
That is the kind of way, remakes should be done.
Redone from scrap, using the same concept from the film, like 7 Samurai's they used the same concept but placed it in a western civilisation point of view, turning samurai's into cowboys but at the same time making it American from a source material that was originally Japanese.

maybe. i mean, i'm sure the mask was based on Edvard Munch's 'the scream' but it still looks like an elephants fanny after it's given birth. (that's the English version of fanny btw)
scariest mask/make up? freddy, jason, leatherface, pinhead or pennywise?

Hmm, interesting. but i'd rather see them continue the series. Not remake it. The twattiness makes the character more iconic. it makes Scream, Scream.

If Hollywood wants to remake old horror films. Remake the old Hammer Horror films. Or I'd love to see a remake of the The Abominable Dr. Phibes and Dr. Phibes rises Again as well as Madhouse. Also why not go back and do some of Alfred Hitchc*ck other films like North by North West, Frenzy, Vertigo and do them with the orgional scripts from the films.

Ben Foster could do it. He did well as the psycho bad guy in 3:10 to Yuma. Playing Freddy is a whole different animal though. Does he have the talent to play him? Probably. I'll be watching carefully who they cast. Casting Freddy is the most important task they have.
