Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Rob Marshall, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides captures the fun, adventure and humor that ignited the hit franchise-this time in Disney Digital 3D. Johnny Depp returns to his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in an action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise. When Jack crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penélope Cruz), he's not sure if it's love-or if she's a ruthless con artist who's using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne's Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn't know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was released May 20th, 2011 and stars Johnny Depp, Penélope Cruz, Geoffrey Rush, Ian McShane, Kevin McNally, Sam Claflin, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Stephen Graham. The film is directed by Rob Marshall.

The first 1/3 is in London, then the next 1/3 in aboard "Queen Anne's Revenge" & "The Providence," and then the final 1/3 is in the jungles & caves of the Caribbean (actually Hawaii). Why am I sensing that the last third will be the only visually stunning part of the movie? And why doesn't this look as good as it sounded a few months ago?

@Supes, we agree to disagree. And yes, I am aware that this a teaser, but its a two minute teaser, just like the other pirate teasers, and one of the major things that sold me on those films was the cinematography shown in those trailers. This didn't have that, and my friend, who works camera for our local tv station agrees 100%. To each their own I guess.

I can't wait, but I wonder how the movie will be with a new director though.

I think it's impossible to judge cinematography from a trailer, because you're not getting entire shots. Trailers are really quick cuts of partial scenes, and give no indication of how actual shots are going to be framed in context of a scene.

This really looks good. For some time I was quite worried because they changed director for this installment, but now my faith has been restored. I now eagerly await 20th May. :D

@Narrator Gotta disagree. I think the distance between the camera and their faces, and the shots we've witnessed thus far look good. Remember, this was just a teaser. We probably didn't see anything in that.
However, not much matches the first teaser trailer I saw for Curse of Black Pearl, with the undead crew walking along the bottom of the sea floor. That was too epic lol.

@Zany, no it doesn't mate. The previous three films, especially the latter two, had brighter day scenes, wider shots, and a... how do I say, natural feel? The cinematography here seems odd. The scene where Jack and Cruz are on the ship, and she stabs a knife through the door seemed, yes, similar to the past films. And I did see a few nice, wide shots, however they too seemed changed. Can't fully explain it. However, the night shot of Geofferey Rush and Jack being held at gunpoint by musket-men; Blakbeard's ship; the whole trek through the jungle thing; all of it looked weak. And it's not my computer. Look at the trailers for Pirates 2 and 3, and then look at this, and tell me that although similar at times, this trailer is the weaker in terms of cinematography. It's a pity too, because one thin I knew Marshall would bring to the table was cinematography. Another example is: look at how close the camera is on everyone. Such as the scene where Jack says, "There should be a Captain in there somewhere...", or when he's talking to his father. The previous films either had extreme close ups, or a steady distance from the faces, which I liked. This feels to modern. Again, this is just me, as I see most of you absolutely love the trailer. If they were going for similar, they could have honestly tried to recapture the magic from the first films. IF not, they should gone in a different direction with a higher contrast, similar to "Memoirs of a Geisha", instead of half-assing it both ways.

@Narrator: The cinematography looks similar to the previous films. Or did you want something fresh?

Is that clip of Jack Sparrow's father not going to be in the movie since Disney wanted the actor out of the theatrical release due to a public admission of marijuana use?

I love how this is the 2nd pair up for Cruz and Depp. Remember, they were BLOW co-stars, so that history and chemistry will be great to see again.

The way I feel is that this film looks to have incredible cinematography & tone, which is to say superbly directed as well, however I actually feel that the trailer itself is just kind of boring.
I'm still looking forward to it and I cant wait to see what they do with the story, however the trailer keeps showing the same thing over and over again (How many times can we see pirates brandish a sword in one trailer??
They needs something to really sell this film.....for example it was the crazy "living-dead" effects of the pirates in the first one that sold me. Then it was the crackin destroying ships and all the crazy pirate action that sold me on the second.
......what are they trying to sell here????
Very poorly put together trailer. I'm hoping they have something better the second go around.

Johnny Depp is so funny. This looks like a different movie from the first ones. Instead of HUGE battle scenes and outrageous special effects, we get a more swashbuckling feel with so flirty, sexy romance in it. I'm liking what I see so far.
