Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Shooting in Hawaii
The Walt Disney Company President and CEO Bob Iger met with Governor Lingle on Friday to share the news that the islands of Kauai and Oahu will be sites for the production of the feature film, which will begin shooting this summer and is slated to be released in summer 2011. The production is expected to generate an estimated $85 million in direct and indirect spending in Hawaii, providing a needed economic boost for the state's economy as well as creating hundreds of jobs for local residents. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will star Johnny Depp, returning to his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow.
The film is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, and directed by Rob Marshall. The writers are Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, and the executive producers are Mike Stenson, Chad Oman, Barry Waldman, Elliott, Rossio and John DeLuca. "Disney's long-term commitment to Hawaii - from ABC's Lost to the new Disney resort on Oahu scheduled to open in 2011, and now the upcoming filming of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides - is a testament to the company's confidence in our state as a great place to do business," said Governor Lingle.
"The Walt Disney Company has a great relationship with Hawaii that we're looking forward to building upon with the filming of the latest adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow and his crew," said Iger. "I thank Governor Lingle and her team for their tremendous support of the projects Disney has underway in this great state." "We've always sought out the most extraordinary and exotic locations for the Pirates of the Caribbean films," said producer Jerry Bruckheimer, "and previously shot briefly on both Maui and Molokai for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Hawaii provides an amazing range of both land and seascapes, and we're delighted to return for On Stranger Tides."
The state's Creative Industries Division and the Hawaii Film Office, which are housed in the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, began working with Disney last year and organized a series of meetings and conference calls to help secure the business. Georja Skinner, the State's Creative Industries Division administrator who oversees operations of the Hawaii Film Office, worked collaboratively with the Governor's office, Department of Taxation and Tourism Liaison Marsha Wienert, along with Hawaii Tourism Authority, Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau, Kauai Visitors Bureau, the Kauai Film Office, the City and County's Honolulu Film Office, The Resort Group, Ko Olina Resort and Disney Vacation Club to help secure Pirates of the Caribbean for Hawaii.
"Hawaii competes on a global basis for productions and to have Disney choose Hawaii over other states and countries is a huge win for us," said Skinner. "Creative industries are by nature collaborative and what I think made a difference for us is the combination of our tax incentive as well as local film, travel and destination industry support." Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides joins a growing list of feature film and television productions slated to film in Hawaii this year. Warner Bros. feature Hereafter, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Matt Damon completed filming on Maui last week. Pre-production is also beginning for the feature film The Descendents, starring George Clooney and directed by Academy Award-winning writer/director Alexander Payne. The film is based on the book by Hawaii resident Kaui Hart Hemmings. Several network pilots, as well as a Japanese drama series and a Korean drama series are also scouting Hawaii for projects this year.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was released May 20th, 2011 and stars Johnny Depp, Penélope Cruz, Geoffrey Rush, Ian McShane, Kevin McNally, Sam Claflin, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Stephen Graham. The film is directed by Rob Marshall.

No, i am not five, i don't know how many times i'm gonna have to tell you this again now, but NO, i am not five. I am 23 years old, and if you can't except that, then why dwell on that then again?. Do you realize at all, that if you start again what you did with me, like what happened not too long ago on here, your not going to solve anything. Believe me, you wont, alright?. My advise you, is to just drop it, and don't bring it up again, because doing so, will not get you anywhere and it wont solve anyhting, trust me on that for once on that ordeal.

Are you f*cking five? Oh, wait, we've had this conversation before...
But seriously, you have to be the most juvenile sad sap on this site in recent memory. When you said "No!, you didn't understand me"(the exclamation mark comes after the full sentence by the way), I could picture you throwing a temper tantrum.
And YES, I did understand you, I just didn't care. I fully understood that you were saying the movie was rumored to be in 3D and now it won't be. YOU didn't understand I clearly stated that unless the movie was actually confirmed to be in 3D, I didn't care. The fact that you think the movie not being in 3D is news means you get overly excited about anything involving the series.
Don't act like you're the expert on all things PotC on this site. You're not the only fan...but you are the only fan who is too bias to accept this movie could fail. Hard.

No!, you didn't understand me. What i said was that the director will not make Pirates 4 into a 3-D movie, but before he was confirmed to even be the director, it was rumored that it "might" be in 3-D. Then the director rob marshall said that he will not be making it in a 3-D movie, which was after he was confirmed to be the fourth movies director!.

I didn't hear anything about it being in 3D in the first place, so I don't really care. If you had told me "yes, it will be in 3D!" that would have been different.

(Instert Username Here), Here's something you might not already know, which is that the director who that will be directing Pirates 4 "Rob Marshall", recently said in a video, that Pirates 4 will not be in 3-D. He mentioned that it wont be in 3-D, because there was recent sourcesses saying that it would be, but now it wont be, because rob marshall does not plan on that happening anyways, so in other words, he basically confirmed that it wont be in 3-D after all !.

Well, Depp and Rush and I assume the familiar crew members from The Black Pearl, like the parrot guy without a tongue, and the two goofy guys (baldy and glass eye guy).

(Instert Unser Name Here), I have a feeling that the fourth pirates movie story line will have something to do with the fountain of youth and blackbeard, and jack sparrow and barbossa trying to find it , because of blackbeard who is like a threat to them or jack sparrow, and blackbeard may try and prevent him from being able to find it. Or something very simular to that, of what i said, but maybe not entirely what storyline from what i said, because i unfortunately have not read the "on stranger tides" story yet!. I'm assuming that, as time passes by, we'll definately find out much more storyline information from Pirates 4, but, what we all might find out next about Pirates 4, is who other then Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush will be in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides!. All we know right know is that Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush, are the only ones returning in Pirates 4, but, we also might see some new people in Pirates 4, who that are already famous from other movies!.

Maybe Richard Alpert doesn't age because he's part of the crew who finds the fountain of youth.

This will be interesting.....-smiles and bites lower lip- I wonder what kind of trouble 'Captain' Jack Sparrow will get into......hmm
If this goes into production, then I can't wait for it's release, even though it might be in 2011. I was a big fan of all Three movies. Johnny Depp Rocked as Jack Sparrow and made Pirates cool and sexy, i guess... Though, it would be REALLY NICE to know what it's going to be about -looks over at The Walt Disney Company-

I enjoyed the series, the atmosphere was great, the later ones lacked the 'adventure' of the first, but either way they were fun.
BUT i feel this is 'too much, too soon'. The last one had a nice close, they could wait a while and return later. This fits the story continuity as well as the actors aging is not a problem. Either way i'm on board.
As for filming in the carribean, Touche Sly, lol. :)

Always funny and even more^ funnier. Love this movie because it's a mix of fun, craziness, adventure, action, I mean it's 'a mix of all Disney movies at one serve.' So that's why I love this series... really.. I am so happy they still work for it, I thought that was the last one. Hawaii is a perfect venue too; a lucky place for shooting now a days (wink). Again Depp will always be the best actor for Jack. He's a bad boy with a funny gestures. Just like Gibson.

Awesome idea, with LOST wrapping up this season and Pirates 4 starting to film in the same locations, wouldn't it be sweet to see the ageless Richard Alpert pop up in the 18th-century world of Pirates. I guess we'll have to wait until the last season plays out to see if that would make any sense (Alpert is still a very mysterious character), but we do have The Black Rock which would fit nicely into the Pirates universe.
Both franchises are 100% owned by Disney, so it's not out of the realm of possibilities. Depending on how soon they start filming Pirates, they may still be shooting the last episodes of Lost anyway, so Nestor Carbonell might be easily on hand.
