Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest Sells 10.5 Million Copies in One Week!

In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, Nielsen VideoScan's First Alert Chart reports that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest sold 10.5 million units to take the No. 1 spot in sales last week. Not surprisingly, it was also tops on Home Media Magazine's video rental chart.

As you may recall, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest also sold 1.5 million copies in it's first week of release in the UK. In Japan, the title moved another 1 million copies to make it "the No. 1 live-action movie of all time in that country."

Due to brisk sales stateside, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is on track to become the No. 1 live-action DVD ever. Currently, that title belongs to Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

On the rest of the First Alert sales chart....

Miami Vice took the No. 2 position while Superman Returns fell to No. 3. Cars moved into the No. 4 slot while Ice Age: The Meltdown thawed into No. 5.

Beerfest debuted strongly at No. 6 and 24: Season 5 came in at No. 7.

In rentals, Miami Vice opened in the No. 3 slot with Beerfest again placing strongly at No. 6.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest was released July 7th, 2006 and stars Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Jack Davenport, Bill Nighy, Jonathan Pryce, Lee Arenberg, Mackenzie Crook. The film is directed by Gore Verbinski.
