Capt. Jack Sparrow moves from Hawaii to Puerto Rico for Pirates 5
Walt Disney Studios was lured in by the aggressive incentives the island has to offer, which makes sense, since the last couple of films in the franchise have held some of the biggest budgets in Hollywood history. Production costs for the last four films topped more than $900 million, with the series pulling in an estimated $3.7 billion worldwide.
Hawaii, where most of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was shot, was not able to provide the same types of incentives, so Disney baled on the state. Some scenes for the previous fourth installment were shot in Puerto Rico, and left the crew praising the locale.
New tax incentives for shooting in both Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic went into affect this past July, and provide studio tax credits for money spent on non-resident actors, writers, directors and other talent.
Pirates of the Caribbean 5 comes to theaters July 10th, 2015 and stars Johnny Depp.

@jonspidey07 Good point, but it turned out to be that Pirates 5 won't start filming in Puerto Rico in November. That was a rumor that ended up being false information. The most likely time that Pirates 5 would start filming, would be sometime shortly after the Lone Ranger movie finishes filming, or once the Lone Ranger movie is released to theaters in July 2013.

This news that Pirates 5 starts filming November 2012 in Puerto Rico, is now confirmed to actually be false information. Pirates 5 will not start filming until sometime after The Lone Ranger, is release to theaters in July 2013 or sometime shortly after. That is if Johnny Depp and Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney, all approve of and like Terry Rossio's script enough for the there to be a Pirates 5 that he has been re-writing since October 2011.

@LordPayne Yeah, it would've been nice if Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio came up with their own story/plot for Pirates 4, but instead they got some ideas for the story/plot for Pirates 4 from the novel "On Stranger Tides". I'm glad that Terry Rossio is coming up with his own story/plot this time for Pirates 5 and that its not from a novel.

@artkid04 I think that the script is going to be completed some time real soon, because Terry Rossio has been rewriting the script for almost a year now. I think that who will be in Pirates 5 and who will be directing it, will all be announced sometime soon, as well as its release date and movie title.

@dcrock - that's what I thought - Stranger Tides was a pretty great film - but in my opinion - Black Pearl is the best - IMHO
I haven't heard anything about POTC 5 - like who is gonna direct it?

I find it interesting that when an article about Avatar 2 comes out, people start yelling "STOP MILKING US CAMERON!", but when PotC 5 is announced (even after a terrible 4th film) nobody says a thing.
F*ck y'all.

@jonspidey07 well, Puerto Rico is still in the Caribbean, it does have exotic locales, and the Pirates crew have been scouting it since Curse of the Black Pearl. The main problem is the urbanization not leaving that many areas available for shooting credible 17th century sets. I think that besides the economic incentives Johnny Depp pushed for filming in PR, because of his experience filming The Rum Diary. That was the only reason Disney came over here to film one scene for On Stranger Tides, Depp just wanted to come back.

"New tax incentives for shooting in both Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic went into affect this past July"
Affect... effect... why is it so hard for Americans to distinguish between them? This is one of those mistakes that I see repeating themselves a ton of times.

interesting
you'd think they would actually be interested in shooting in exotic, tropical locations
heck most movies like this choose the locations to match the settings of the stories the filmmakers are telling
excited for another 'Pirates' flick
