Pineapple Express Sets Wednesday Box Office Record for August

For once, here's a box office record that The Dark Knight doesn't own. According to Variety, the stoner comedy Pineapple Express opened big to the record-breaking tune of $12.5 million, is a new Wednesday record for the month of August.

The David Gordon Green-directed comedy beat out The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, which took in $8.5 million in its August 2004 opening Wednesday.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 also fared well on its opening day, taking in $5.8 million on Wednesday. The first film took in $9 million during its whole opening weekend.

The Dark Knight grossed another $5 million on Wednesday, putting its total at $410.7 million. Analysts predict the film will end up with a domestic gross just over $500 million, surpassing Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope's $460 million to be the second-highest-grossing film of all time, behind Titanic and its $600.8 million domestic haul.

Pineapple Express was released August 6th, 2008 and stars Seth Rogen, James Franco, Danny McBride, Kevin Corrigan, Craig Robinson, Gary Cole, Rosie Perez, Ed Begley Jr.. The film is directed by David Gordon Green.

    holy crap.i was online at like 9:30,and there were only 30 reviews.now there's double that amount.i had to go back a few pages to catch up.it was good to see vamp & mcesenas become friends.AWWWWWW.haha.and,thx for the info on tropic thunder,JR.i still wanna see it though.it seems to be kinda the same as express in the way the comedy is mixed with the ridiculous violence.and,i think i saw mcesenas say something about catwoman being the worst movie ever...i totally agree.but it was also the funniest.haha.the special FX were HORRIBLE.

    actually i went thru all of ur movie reviews n u do have a couple of movies (besides the ones that a named) that r pretty good but alot of the ones that u give 4stars to really suck n most of them happen to be vampire movies (n yes i know its my opinion n u know sorry for saying sh*t about u cuz i just dont feel like doing this anymore) but just one more question did u really like catwoman? cuz i think thats probably one of the worst movies of all time

    The saw movies do a good job of combining fear with gore(like dif. ways to be killed, as u said), but most of the others have lost their touch. Their more entertaining than scary...they're like comedies ;) Hopefully, the 13th remake doesn't just focus on the gore, but it's kinda hard to get scared when u know the killer's coming due to that sound: "ch-ch-ch...ah-ah-ah..." lol

    I've remained neutral on this issue, but here's what i think:

    It's dif. times we live in vamp, the comedies have gotta follow suit. People today are lazy, sex crazed, pot smokers...the studios get that and put out movies they can relate to lol I actually think the apatow gang is trying to bring back that comedy essence that has since been lost. Not all of them are hits, but they're funny. It's a comedy...it's supposed to be a lil stupid, and yet, such as with pineapple express, i hear it's got some heart to it.

    To be honest, comedies today pale in comparison to the suckiness that is horror movies. Horror films used to be about suspense and terror. Today, filmmakers think it's about blood and gore. And the ones today that do focus on "terror" aren't even scary(prom night). Who can forget that fateful night that michael myers invaded poor lil Laurie Stodes's house? He falls, she sits on the floor relieved, thinking it's over...then that erry music starts playing and michael gets up. Boo and yeah. That doesn't happen nemore. Comedies today at least make u laugh, but horrors don't make u scared. In my opinion, comedies are beginning to become better while the horror genre isn't what it used to be

    BUT, mcesenas, ur a f*cking retard to tell someone they know sh*t bout movies when u know nothing bout the person. U could have at least argued ur point without insulting him personally...and i KNOW that i just insulted u, but that's a whole dif. thing, so don't even try to defend urself with that
