Peter Jackson Meeting with Actors for The Hobbit

Peter Jackson in Los Angeles seeking out actors for The Hobbit
We reported a few weeks ago that director Peter Jackson still may not direct a highly-anticipated prequel and now it seems that deal is being closed and he's also looking for cast members for the film. Heat Vision Blog is reporting that Jackson is currently in Los Angeles, looking at potential actors for the cast of The Hobbit.

The film still isn't greenlit as of yet, but Jackson has been in L.A. since Saturday on a casting trip that also included stops in New York and the U.K. The site also reports that his deal to direct both The Hobbit and The Hobbit Sequel is, "close to done," although the financial troubles of MGM, which holds half of the rights to the film, are still holding things up.

The site also reported that Warner Bros., which is the head studio in the production, is, "furiously negotiating with MGM," to get the film off the ground. It was said that one of the points of Jackson's directorial deal would be that the films would be put on the fast-track for release in both 2012 and 2013 for The Hobbit Sequel.

We'll be sure to keep you posted on any further details regarding The Hobbit and The Hobbit Sequel as soon as we have more information.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey comes to theaters December 14th, 2012 and stars Cate Blanchett, Saoirse Ronan, Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee. The film is directed by Peter Jackson.

The Hobbit: There and Back Again comes to theaters December 13th, 2013 and stars Ron Perlman, Hugo Weaving, Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Doug Jones, Kiran Shah, Billy Connolly.

I have no doubt that Jackson will do a fantastic job, but I hope he brings a breath of fresh air to the films, too. I hope he doesn't pull too much from the original LOTR.

That's the best news I've heard in ages. It simply has to be Peter Jackson directing this.

Still wondering who will be cast as Bilbo.

@ J.A., this article and several others make the appearance that if Jackson takes it up, which is what they are working for, all other directional options are pretty much invalid. So I think Jackson should do this... finish what he started.

And @AvatarSequel... well my friend I actually like those little dramatic moments. he could tone it down I am sure, but hopefully not to much for my sake. To each their own. At least you acknowledge he's a talented director.

    @ Fallen

The first part has been greenlit, its just the 2nd installment that hasn't, henceforth why a lot of the set is completed...
But the project went pear-shape, when Del Toro left it, not that i blame him.....But meh Jackson & Blomkamp.....I'm down with that, they did sheer amazement with District 9

    lol @ BabyH....his already done that :D

Apparently Neil Blomkamp is set to direct, not Peter Jackson

Peter Jackson is a hobbit. He needs to cast himself.

I hope you guys don't take that the wrong way, I love the guy, I really do, I just see that as one his flaws. He still kicks ass overall.

I don't want to draw the ire of other fans, but I hope Jackson doesn't have a lot of dramatic face staring going on in it. King Kong had a lot of great action sequences, but the extended staring parts could have been cut down a lot. Prob would have made the movie 2 and half hours instead of 3.

They'll greenlight this as soon as Jackson's deal is done. I don't like the phrase "fast-track" when it comes to this movie.

    Make it happen Jackson :)

  16. The Narrator: The Better Man

Isn't green-lit? Are you kidding me!? They have pretty much finished building Hobbiton by now.

Anyways, against all odds, I honestly hope he pulls through and does it on his own accord. If he did it half-assed (which we know he wouldn't) it would still be great, but I want him to willingly do it because he wants to. Not for the fans or the paycheck.

To MGM: Sell it fully to Warners (making quite a lot of great films lately), and use that money to make Bond or something, and get your sorry asses out of debt!
