Peter Jackson in Negotiations to Direct The Hobbit!

Peter Jackson directing the Hobbit?
Peter Jackson directing the Hobbit?
We reported earlier this month that MGM and Warner Bros. were not pursuing other directors for a highly-anticipated two-part film until they heard a definitive answer from Peter Jackson and now it seems that answer is yes. Deadline New York is reporting that Peter Jackson is now in negotiations to direct both The Hobbit and The Hobbit Sequel.

The site is also reporting that securing Jackson as the director could be an important step in getting MGM to lock down a shooting schedule that would have the film begin production by the end of this year.

Several directors had been mentioned to take over the film once Guillermo del Toroleft the film at the end of May, but it seems that the man who started The Lord of the Rings franchise is now in line to direct these prequel films.

We'll be sure to update you on this story as soon as more information is revealed, so stay tuned.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey comes to theaters December 14th, 2012 and stars Cate Blanchett, Saoirse Ronan, Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee. The film is directed by Peter Jackson.

The Hobbit: There and Back Again comes to theaters December 13th, 2013 and stars Ron Perlman, Hugo Weaving, Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Doug Jones, Kiran Shah, Billy Connolly.

It is only right that Jackson will direct these two movies it is obsurd that there was a possibility of another director finishing this series of movies; it's better this way. Good news.

@dadarkknight my thoughts exactly. i think these movies are cool but they do tend to get boring. i'm not a hardcore fan but i do respect what these movies represent. just for that i hope Peter Jackson does direct the film.

@dadarkknight I'm not offended in the least. And for the record, Bleach isn't my favorite anime. Don't get me wrong, I love the show, but it pales in comparison to Cowboy Bebop, NGE, and Code Geass. Filler episodes just drag Bleach down too many times.

@ejk 1 If I offended you by calling you a fanboy I'm sorry. I did not mean anything negative by it. Lol I think we all are fanboys boys of something whether its a our favorite sports team, comic book company(yes Im a DC fanboy), or our favorite anime and nothing is wrong with that as long as people does not get at each others throats lol

@dadarkknight: Well, I don't know if I like being called a fanboy, but then again I'm writing this while watching Bleach reruns on Adultswim, so maybe the description fits.

@Todd89: Mark's kidding. Nobody wants Uwe Boll to direct anything ever again. I'll never forget watching Game Head(now Game Trailers) on Spike a year or two ago, when host Geoff Keighley was interviewing one of the game directors of God of War and Boll. The subject of the GOW movie came up, and Keighley asked the game director(whose name escapes me right now) if he would want Boll to direct the movie. Although he was as diplomatic as possible, you could tell that the guy wanted to say, "HELL NO!" It was an awkward and yet hilarious moment in television.

I was just giving my opinion on how I feel about the movies now. I not saying I want see the Hobbit if PJ makes them. Man If only their were more fanboys like you three that understand that people have different opinions on things lol

I think it's hard to sit and watch any 3 hour plus movie over and over again. I watch movies such as this only once a year, tops. For example, I watched Seven Samurai in January, and even though I love that film, I have no plans on watching it again until at least next January. Long movies are fun if you have the right amount of time to kill, but rarely does one get that chance. Trying to watch it over and over again makes watching feel like a chore.

yea i hear that avatarsequal and dadarkknight, i totally understand how the movies get boring, personally they are my favorite movies of all time and always will be i think and i get into some heated arguments defending them, but as much as i love them, after seeing them as many times as i have, it is definately difficult to sit down for 3 hours and watch them i have to really be in the mood. however that doesnt mean i dont love them just as much as i used to

as for the hobbit goes and peter jackson directing it, he is the obvious choice, the book is better than the lotr books i think and it has what made the first one so great, the adventure, fellowship was awesome because they traveled half of middle earth and so much cool sh*t happened, as opposed to the other movies just preparing you for the epic battles that were about to take place. the hobbit brings the adventure back and it has potential to be better than the lotr films i think, especially in the hands of peter jackson, i just hope he puts as much passion into it as he did with lotr

I think I understand what @dadarkknight means. When LOTR first came out, I was like a damn spokesperson for the trilogy. If you said anything negative about it, I'd rip your head off. But as the years have gone by, I've found it really hard to sit still and watch them again. I already know the conclusion, the amazing battles, its hard going the 3 and 1/2 hour rounds now.

BUT that doesn't mean I'm not excited over The Hobbit. I loved The Hobbit even more, and I think this is going to be a great 2 movies. I still think PJ is the man for the job.

@Elm Street, I'm a moron because I don't like a movie you like? Man I hate fanboys like you, so I give my opinion on the matter and since its something you don't agree with you have to go and call people names. Im a huge batman/dc comics fanboy but if someone say they do not like Batman Begins I don't go and call them names because that is their opinion, everyone do not like the same thing. If you were from my neighborhood and you said that s#@T to someone you would have got smacked. Im not saying you cannot voice your opinion on the matter just don't go calling people names.
