Peter Berg Discusses Dune Reboot

SCI FI Wire recently caught up with director Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) who is currently developing a Dune reboot.

Based on Frank Herbert's sci-fi novel, Berg is planning on bringing a wholly different take to the material than previous directors. The most famous adaptation was done by David Lynch in 1984.

"I think I had a much more different experience, I think, with the book than David Lynch did.To me, I think my interpretation will feel significantly different from that and the [Syfy] Channel miniseries that aired. I have a different experience than both of those filmmakers did."

Berg wants his version to be more epic in scope.

"The book was much more muscular and adventurous, more violent and possibly even a little bit more fun. I think those are all elements of my experience of the book that can be brought in without offending the die-hard fans of the Bene Gesserit and Kwisatz Haderach. There's a more dynamic film to be made."

Dune comes to theaters in 2012. The film is directed by Pierre Morel.

Peter Berg's a f*cking hack. And a helpful hint, Mr. Berg, purposely shaking and jarring the camera does not make it a trademark, it just gives the audience a migraine and another reason to hate your sorry-ass.

Dune would still be amazing (despite the negligence of the director). ;(

[I might have went overboard on the Berg-rant, but I don't care].

WHAT THE F*CK?!?! He is supposed to be working on a Lone Survivor movie!!! Universal I think it was signed him to direct it over a year ago and he said he would start as soon as he finished up Hanc*ck and had a break.

  3. The Narrator: The Better Man

The Kingdom was good. Hanc*ck blew but it was also due to bad writing, and directing as well. I think this can be a lot better, if he has some good writers on his side. And they better be very big fans of the book so they won't f*ck it up! Overall, I will see this no matter what, almost. Unless he goes and does something EAL stupid.
