Am still curious to see it lol...having seen the remakes, i still think Berg has something he can add to Dune that could potentially surprise the audience. Let's give him the benefit of a doubt.

When asked about "remaking" a film made by the illustrious David Lynch, the director was more than diplomatic: "Berg said that while he's "a big fan of Lynch," he believes "that interpretation has left the door wide open for a remake."

I think a new Dune could be kickin, though the Sci-Fi TV series was awesome! As was the old movie, with Patrick Stewart. And granted Hollwood loves to remake stuff these days but hey Dunerocked, so why not!

LOL @ cerealkiller Lp!! How I'm I being "Negative"??
LOL! I'm sorry I'm not jumping up & down W./ultra Excitment that "Dune" is being "Remade" or "Reimagend"!
I just don't understand why David Lynch is not going back like Ridley did for "Blade Runner" & Re-cutting, adding new scenes or what ever it takes to make the film his, then putting it back on the big screen has his film?? (Yes I know Upon its release, director David Lynch distanced himself from the project, stating that pressure from both producers and financiers restrained his artistic control and denied him final cut.)
I'm "NO" knocking Peter Berg (I thought "The Kingdom" was a damn good film, & very under-rated)I love Peter Berg's film: "Very Bad Things".
I just think after so many different cuts of the film both for TV & DVD/VHS, & then the SCI-FI Channel making several "Dune" movies, it's something that dosen't need to be recovered! Is that so bad!?!
Have you yourself "cerealkiller Lp" ever seen "DUNE"?? Any of the movie versions? Or the SCI-FI Channel movies? Have you ever read the book? I'm guessing not!
Was David Lynch's freaky, bizarre and nearly incomprehensible 1984 film Dune really all that bad?
Look at what is so freakin' good about David Lynch's film. Let's try to figure out why it's still a late-night favorite, why geeks quote it all the time -- and why, incidentally, Frank Herbert himself liked David Lynch's film so much.
One reason that mabey Frank Herbert liked David Lynch's "Dune" is by all the marquee names involved?
And what a cast. Francesca Annis, Leonardo Cimino, José Ferrer, Linda Hunt, Kyle MacLachlan, Virginia Madsen, Sting, Sean Young & Patrick Stewart to name a few of the stars!
Or mabey because of production designer Anthony Masters (2001) and costume designer Bob Ringwood (Batman, Excalibur, A.I.) fully realized a world alien enough to be 8,000 years in our future.

Im a fan of Peter Berg, he seems very versitile. He can do comedies as well as dramas and action. From The Kingdom to Hanc*ck. Cant wait to see what he does with Dune.

I dig the sci fi Dune that was kickin so was the old movie, it could be a very cool remake with new technology and all. But a new version could be totally amazing. Love Dune! I am the Kwisatz Haderach!

someone is a little comment happy, geez... although dune was a great movie, its been 23 years since it was out? it deserves the new technology remake, movie2movie you act like its been 2 years since the last one and that new directors just keep coming in to try to make money... its rather annoying, i hope this movie kicks ass to shut up all of the critics

wow some of you guys are morons. not all directors are money hungry bastards. Remakes are to show a different vision of the story and to make his/her own version.

Well, Im OK with people not liking remakes, but why "remake" your comments? somebody here is really pissed with this idea and is spamming this section. Ill just wait and see if this movie is any good. I still remember my thoughts on the reboot of the Batman franchise and my change of mind after I saw the film. And I love both, Burton and Nolan visions, so I guess we cannot make this kind of judgments so quickly and angrily

I agree, the film industry is not as original anymore, but that doesnt mean that it is bad to remake movies! Using the technology of today, movies look better. Yes, part of it is them selling out, and of course they are "money hungry greedy *ssholes", thats what hollywood has become, like it or not that is the truth and you just have to accept it. I wish that ppl could keep writing amazing new things, but if they want to just redo an older idea, as long as they do a good job im fine with it.

im typically not fan of almost any remake of an already good movie, but it sounds like Berg really is invested in this project and making it good. i enjoyed the sci-fi miniseries and the original theatrical version, but i found it really confusing (albeit the book is pretty confusing too). I think Berg may be able to do some good here and make people see Dune as the scifi epic it is.

SO PETER BERG IS A MONEY HUNGRY GREEDY *SSHOLE!!! THERE IS NO POINT FOR A "RE-MAKE" OR WHAT EVER YOU WANT TO CALL IT OF "DUNE". IT' ALREADY HAS BEEN DONE MORE TIMES THAN ONE!!!!!!

A 2003 sequel miniseries called Frank Herbert's Children of Dune continued the story, adapting the second and third novels in the series (Dune Messiah and Children of Dune). Both miniseries were two of the three highest-rated programs ever to be broadcast on the Sci-Fi Channel!!!

Then there was a three-part miniseries based on the 1965 novel Dune by Frank Herbert. It was produced by New Amsterdam Entertainment in association with Blixa Film Produktion and Hallmark Entertainment Distribution, and broadcast by the Sci Fi Channel. Written and directed by John Harrison, the series was first broadcast in the USA on December 3, 2000 and was later released on DVD on 23 October 2001. A Special Edition Director's Cut was released on DVD on 11 June 2002; it contains scenes not included in the original televised version.

Despite initial failure, the movie "Dune" has achieved a respectable cult status of which at least three other versions outside the original theatrical cut have been released. In grand total, four versions of David Lynch's "Dune" are known!!!
1) Theatrical Cut
2) Alan Smithee Version
3) Channel 2 Version (In 1992, KTVU, a San Francisco, CA Fox affiliate, pieced together a hybrid edit of the two previous versions for broadcast in the San Francisco Bay Area. It is essentially the television version with all the violence of the theatrical version reincorporated into the film, along with many of the "fabricated" shots objected to by Lynch removed.)
4) Extended Edition (An Extended Edition was released by Universal Home Entertainment in the US on DVD on January 31, 2006.)

No "dahopas" it MEANS that the film industry isn't original anymore..its all about remakes, novels, comic books, classic cartoons, and based on a true story..its called "SELLING OUT" =)

Why... lets see... Well we have Peter Berg, one of the best directors of this day and age, and according to him it will be a big project, which means a good cast and great special effects. Now it seems that you are not a fan of remakes, but it also seems like the majority of the population does. Yes, the 1984 film was amazing, but that doesn't mean that a new version wont be as good or better!

Umm Hello Mr Berg..
Dune was a 1984 science fiction film written and directed by David Lynch, based on the 1965 Frank Herbert novel of the same name. The film stars Kyle MacLachlan as Paul Atreides, and includes an ensemble of well-known American and European actors in supporting roles, including Sting, Jose Ferrer, Virginia Madsen, Linda Hunt, Patrick Stewart, Max von Sydow, and Jürgen Prochnow, among others. It was filmed at the Churubusco Studios in Mexico City and included a soundtrack by the band Toto. As in the novel, the central plot concerns a young man foretold in prophecy as the "Kwisatz Haderach" who will protect the titular desert planet from the malevolent House Harkonnen and save the universe from evil.
