Pete Travis to Direct Judge Dredd in 3D

The film is budgeted at under $50 million.
Dredd comes to theaters September 21st, 2012 and stars Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby, Jason Cope, Warrick Grier, Joe Vaz, Langley Kirkwood, Deobia Oparei, Francis Chouler. The film is directed by Pete Travis.

Stallone's film was just fine. He looked the part, and all in all the story was good. The only issue with the Stallone take was the Waste Land was used. The whole idea is a future where the world that is, is a huge city where Judges are the end all be all. They under used the city as just a back drop and not a real part of the story that it was. Filed with people, over crowded, criminals every where, ect... Small part on the first big shoot out, but that was it.

I liked the Sylvester Stallone version just fine. It worked for me.
And this new one will only have a budget of 50 mill? What are they gonna do with that? This is a sci fi actioner set far in the future, you need to spend some dough. I could understand if it was a 30 mill project like District 9 (fantastic, smart sci fi right there), but this is far in the future, I think the budget is a little low to really show it off.

Why? I would rather see a reboot of cool world or darkman.

I enjoyed the first one, well up to a degree. I would love to see a Tony Scott version or Peter Jackson take on it. I know they are busy bees but still one can dream.

Judge Dredd doesn't need a reboot

If, for example, the film will tell about judge Rico by Dredd I am in favor it. They may also have its origins in the academy. An attempt to remake a version with Stallone may be a failure, something else had been working on this for example, Christopher Nolan is different but I am so curious effect.

Vanboy
Yeah ed-wood, the only thing I didn't like was the way over the top Armand Assante, and the fake blue contact lenses he and Sly wore. Was way too distracting. Max Von Sydo was great though.
Hope they have the abc Robot in this one more, but it isn't just a stationary, upper torso only animated robot, but CGI creation or a mixture of CGI and practical effects with full motion.
Please no Rob Schneider in this.

I'll take a peek.
Remember when the concept art came out and they all had swords? Hahaa. Yeah.

2010- The year that every movie ever being planned will be in 3d. 2011- the year that people finally get smart and stop going to 3d movies and the execs wake up. 2012- movies return to normal just in time for the mayan apocalypse.

the story was good...the visuals and effects were good...the other actors in it were good....BUT....if only, if only, Stallone hadn't been in it, Judge Dredd would've probably been a hell of a lot better back then...
