Fox 2000 is moving forward on a sequel to last year's Percy Jackson & the Olympians: Lightning Thief, having hired screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to pen the follow-up.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: Lightning Thief was based on the first novel in Rick Riordan's five-book series. The sequel will be based on the second book, The Sea Monsters. The script is still in the early development stages, with no director attached yet.

Chris Columbus, who directed Percy Jackson & the Olympians: Lightning Thief, is attached as a producer of the sequel, although he will not direct. Karen Rosenfelt will also produce The Sea Monsters.

Original cast member Logan Lerman will reportedly return for the sequel. The story revolves around the title character and his friends, who head under the sea to find the mysterious Golden Fleece.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: Lightning Thief, which was released last February, pulled in $89 million at the domestic box office and another $137 million internationally.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: Lightning Thief was released February 12th, 2010 and stars Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson, Alexandra Daddario, Trent Jones, Jake Abel, Sean Bean, Pierce Brosnan, Steve Coogan. The film is directed by Chris Columbus.

First of all the Lightning Thief was a terrific book but a horrible movie and second of all, the next book is called The Sea OF Monsters not The Sea Monsters! This one was also a great book and plus my favorite beside the fifth one and if they do the same thing they did to the Lightning Thief movie, I will not see this movie!

Personally, i thought this film was pretty entertaining... although it did differentiate from the novel in bits and pieces i still feel it was a good film, much better than a lot of novels-film that have come out.

A wish come true. I said before in the Clash of Titans 2 in 3D forum that they should go ahead just for the greek mythology since there are some many stories to tell. And no fault to the books themselves since half the time the studio doesn't get it right anyways.

Love the books the 1st movie was OK not great but I wonder what they will do since it seemed like Percy killed Luke in the movie but in the books he is 1 of the Main villains through out the books & in this movie they have to introduce the real Villain of the series Kronos.

& they have to introduce Clarisse since she is a big part of this book & can't wait to see Tyson he is 1 of my favorite characters in the books.

Cool. I actually liked this one. Didn't love it, but it's sequel worthy. The cast had a good chemistry. Well . . . the main cast, anyway. The Gods were pushovers :P

My dad enjoyed it better than Harry Potter, so i guess I'll be seeing it when it comes out. Though a lot of the scenes looked like they were being practiced and just added as filler, it was somewhat entertaining.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: Lightning Thief was BETTER than Clash of the Titans.
It has minotaurs, medusa, hydra, satirs etc etc.

I didn't care for the first either @cupid. BUT, I am interested to see how the series moves along. I hear the books are great but the film messed up the ages of the character. I guess Percy is only supposed to be in 7th grade in the first one, not high-school.
