Patricia Rozema is set to direct American Girl. The live-action feature stars Abigail Breslin in the lead role. According to Variety, her character has been inspired by the American Girl line of dolls and clothing.

Breslin will play Kit Kittredge, a girl who tries to help save her family as it struggles through the Depression.

Joining her in the cast are Stanley Tucci, Glenne Headly and Jane Krakowski. Julia Ormond, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Wallace Shawn may also join the cast.

Filming begins next month. American Girl will be released July 2nd, 2008.
