Paramount's Chief Mulls Over Paranormal Activity 2

According to Los Angeles Times, it seems that Paramount Pictures is tossing around the idea of doing a sequel to their breakout hit Paranormal Activity.

The film cost $16,000 to make and has pulled in $62.5 at the U.S. box office. Here is what Paramount Chairman Brad Grey had to say:

"We have the rights on a worldwide basis to do Paranormal 2 and we're looking to see if that makes some sense."

Paramount bought the movie for $300,000 and spent less than $10 million on marketing. The film is looking like it will make more than $100 million in the U.S. alone. This would make Paranormal Activity the most profitable film for the studio since Grey came on board in 2005 and maybe the studio's history.

Another reason why the studio could make a sequel is because it has worldwide rights to the sequel. Having those overseas rights could make the project even more profitable.

Paranormal Activity opens in foreign countries Friday.

Paranormal Activity was released September 25th, 2009 and stars Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat, Mark Fredrichs, Amber Armstrong, Ashley Palmer, Crystal Cartwright, Randy McDowell, James Piper. The film is directed by Oren Peli.

I too agree with Comrade, if they are to do something, do what Comrade said.

I agree with Comrade; No sequal, but keep the elements of this movie and apply it to another film with a different story line.

I loved this movie, but it doesn't need a sequal (and I'm usually open to sequals).

No sequel. You could apply some of the principles of this movie to another film, but you have to try new things as filmmakers to stay ahead of the game.

Nah I think it should be left as is... But it won't because once more money is mentioned they don't care if it's sh*t once money can be made it's done.

If they were to do a sequel, they should do a contest where people can submit their movies - rather than doing something like Blair Witch 2.

I say no sequel. This is a success for a reason, there is only ONE. And it should stay that way.

Kerching. And just watch them f*ck it up - Blair Witch 2 style.

And suddenly this movie with a budget of less than $20,000 will get a $10 million budget and will ruin itself with effects and cheesy horror clich&#233s. As though it wasn't already kind of a clich&#233 already.

Oh...don't know about a sequel. That's a landmine field. If Oren Peli does it, it could be good. Just don't think it needs a sequel. If there is one, it shouldn't be about the money, but about scaring the sh*t out of people with accuracy of demonic possesion on a low budget.
