Owen Wilson is in talks to join Paul Thomas Anderson's upcoming drama Inherent Vice.

Based on a novel by Thomas Pynchon, the film takes place in Los Angeles during the winter of 1969 and summer of 1970. The story follows pothead private investigator Doc Sportello (Joaquin Phoenix), who begins investigating the disappearance of his ex-lover's husband and real estate mogul, Mickey Wolfman. Owen Wilson's has been confirmed for the role of Coy Harlingen. We reported that Benicio Del Toro was also circling the project for the role of the P.I.'s attorney.

Paul Thomas Anderson is directing from a script he penned. He is also producing with JoAnne Sellar, Daniel Lupi and John Lesher of his Ghoulardi Film Co.

Production will start later this month.

Inherent Vice comes to theaters December 12th, 2014 and stars Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, Martin Short, Jena Malone, Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro. The film is directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.

    Doc Sportello is hired by his ex, Shasta Fay Hepworth, to investigate the disappearance of her husband and real estate mogul, Mickey Wolfman -- not to investigate the disappearance of a "young girl."
