Overture Films to Remake The Crazies

Overture Films has signed on to produce The Crazies, a remake of George Romero's 1973 horror.

According to Variety, Breck Eisner will direct from a script by Ray Wright and Scott Kosar. Michael Aguilar and Dean Georgaris will produce; Romero will serve as executive producer.

The Crazies revolves around people in a small Kansas town who are beset by a virus that causes insanity and death after a mysterious toxin contaminates the local water supply.

Project was previously set up at Rogue Pictures and Paramount. Overture CEO Chris McGurk and chief operating officer Danny Rosett felt it was a good fit for the company's expanding slate.

Production is set to begin early next year.

The Crazies was released February 26th, 2010 and stars Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, Joe Anderson, Danielle Panabaker, Christie Lynn Smith, Brett Rickaby, Preston Bailey, John Aylward. The film is directed by Breck Eisner.

    the crazies is a great movie.
    i'm not against a remake, but it won't replace the original. the original had that 70's grindhouse/exploitation-style feel to it.
