Kathryn Bigelow's next movie will showcase the death of Osama Bin Laden
We first reported on the project back in December, when all that was known about the movie was that it centered on a team of special ops soldiers. It seems Mark Boal, who has contacts in military intelligence and a background in investigative journalism, based his project on the exact same team that took out Bin Laden, with the screenwriter following the mission this whole time.
Mark Boal will now rewrite the script to include the 40-minute firefight which ended in Osama Bin Laden's death. The death occurred at just the right time for Mark Boal, who still has time to tweak the script, while still ensuring the movie will be timely upon it's released.
They are still unsure of where to shoot this untitled project, though. Mark Boal had planned a location scouting trip to Afghanistan next week, although he canceled it in light of the recent events. Kathryn Bigelow is still aiming for a summer shoot, although the producers plan to see how the world reacts to these events first.
Casting is currently under way, although no offers will be made until Mark Boal puts the finishing touches on the screenplay. Kathryn Bigelow's Triple Frontier was previously believed to start production before this untitled project, although now it seems Triple Frontier will be put on the back burner.

Not a good idea. Especially right now. Do "Triple Frontier" first, and sit on this one for a long while.

My thing was ment for Mary Gunstone, and more so to anyone who wants to trash Obama for no real reason. Basicly the news article shows he was a major player in the decision making process. He ordered the ground force to go in, for he said the chance to get intel was as important as taking out Osama, which if it was Bush, then he would have gotten the credit for it, unlike Obama who is still being trashed talked over nothing..
But as for your article post, I took it you was saying the killing of Osama was many months ago. But I realize, it was saying the person writing the movie, actualy had first hand knowledge of those who did the actual assault on Sunday/Monday. If thats the actual context you ment. But I took it the other way. If so, I am sorry. But my thing is, this movie idea could have been in the works for a long time, just waiting for the actual thing to go down for media attention. I can see how it could be made to look though.

Wait, when did we start talking about Obama? We are talking about and screenwriter and a movie. I see nothing in the article that couldn't of easily happened, especially with their work with The Hurt Locker. I'm looking forward to see what they do with the movie. All I can ask is that they try to keep it down to earth and not over the top dramatic but as we all know Hollywood likes to up the drama factor.

@messenger. Oh well I didn't know you wasnt trying to be a dick until you finished, concidering you started as, Have I seen the article, which I haven't, and then post it. But its ok. Its a bunch of bull just like it was when a so called special forced person said the president ordered all soldiers NOT to carry ammo in their guns in a war zone, in the middle of a actual war. If you belive that so called article, if its a real one, then I have a ocean front property in arizona.
@mary Gunstone. Read this article. http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_upshot/20110503/bs_yblog_upshot/bin-laden-news-finds-pundits-forsaking-usual-comfort-zones
As your see, even Rush admitted it was Obama who wanted the Specail Forces team to go in while the others wanted to simply blow it from the air. Leaving a chance he would live, and destroy important intelligents. Now those men and women if there was any, are the real hero's who did the deed. But I wish so many people would just stop being sheep to the GOP and Fox news bull. It is... Went to collage for history degree. Both sides would lie to get in. But the GOP;Fox News, and the new "Tea party" group of the republican party are miss leading people. Just sayin...

Did you read the article?

I'm not being a dick here, but how hard is that to understand?

For those wondering, they dumped Osama into the ocean because that is what the government did to Megatron's corpse and that worked out pretty well!

So they are doing a movie about a United States ally and CIA informant by the code name "Tim Osman" that died of kidney failure 10 years ago? Or are they going the route that the media has been telling the story of this alleged "terrorist"?

@messenger... Are you meaning they followed the team or Osma was gotten months ago? This is stupid. Let the man fade into time as a evil figure, that needs no profit made off his name.

How is this to soon when they've been following the seal team that got him MONTHS AGO.

Too soon, but it's not a surprise Hollywood jumped on this real fast. Maybe and I'm just saying maybe that it would be some what funny if they do an Osama kill mission movie like they did for Hitler in Inglourious Basterds. Maybe

Who the hell knows what's really going on. Some say he died years back, others say he worked for the CIA, some say he's still alive.....on and on. Point is this film will most likely be flawed info.

Damn. Very interested in seeing how this project turns out. I hope the extra firefight and eventual death scene aren't rushed. I'd hate to see a good movie fall apart because the ending was out of place.
As for whether or not he really died... I have my doubts, as well as my personal opinion on our current President, but that's beside the point. If anything, I think this event will be featured in more films than just this one, as I'm sure a few "Bin Ladin... not dead?" thriller films will come out as well, which may sound cool, but ultimately belittle the efforts and possible truth to the seals story. That's partially why I don't want to dig into the story too much, if only not to upset people who honestly believe and or know that he's dead because they had a part in the struggle. That would be a disservice to them, should the news reign true.

How lucky is Boal, though? To have this happen in just the amount of time for him to rewrite his script is lucky -- for lack of a better word -- beyond belief.
