Will Smith's One Thousand A.E. gets Stephen Gaghan rewrite
The story centers on a father-son duo, to be played by the actual father-son team of Will Smith and Jaden Smith, who crash on Earth, one thousand years after humanity had abandoned the planet. The father is badly injured in the crash, and the son goes out in search of help on the now-dangerous planet.
Stephen Gaghan turned in his rewrite nearly a month ago, working from an original draft by Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli). It is said Stephen Gaghan may stay on board for further rewrites. Production is scheduled to start in February.
Will Smith will also produce One Thousand A.E. alongside his Overbrook Entertainment partners James Lassiter, Ken Stovitz, and Jada Pinkett Smith.
After Earth comes to theaters May 31st, 2013 and stars Will Smith, Jaden Smith, Zoƫ Kravitz, Isabelle Fuhrman, Sophie Okonedo, Sacha Dhawan, David Denman, Kristofer Hivju. The film is directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

@k-man I can agree with those sentiments. Sixth Sense and Unbreakable are still good films to me (I like Unbreakable more than Sixth Sense, actually, when I think about it).
As for Will Smith, his time has come and gone already. He's a relic of the 90's and early 00's.

@dan1 - I've felt the same way about M. Night these past few years......he used to be amazing but has really hit the sh*ts with one epic disaster after another.
However, I know what he CAN do (or COULD do, back in the day) so I always feel obligated to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Will Smith is a phenomenal actor in my book, but wastes his talent more than anyone else in the business. The guy can do basically anything he puts his mind to.....but continuously does these lame-ass flicks like Hitch, Hanc*ck or the Men in Black films (the first one was ok when it was first released.....but the second, not so much).
Point being, he should be doing more serious, quality films that allow him to expand on his talent.....and I'm hoping that this film will possibly allow him to do that.
I dont give two sh*ts about Will Smith's kids......but at least it's realistic when it comes to the relationship of the characters.
In conclusion, I'm holding out hope for this. It has an actor that I love and a director that I would love to see get back to his roots of quality story telling and a genre that I'm obsessed with.
Add it to the ever growing list of films to see in 2013, for me!

BERSERKER
It may just be me but i don't think M.Night is that bad of a director, it's when he's also the screenwriter that things seem to go bad. But now that it's getting a rewrite it could be a movie to watch out for, fingers crossed.

I like the Oscar-winning screenwriter Stephen Gaghan, so it has a good base and I like the concept. I feel it is good to see a real father and son acting together.

Willing to watch it, enjoying it will be another thing. I like Will in small doses, but he and his son again is over the top.
