Rooney Mara eyed for the Oldboy female lead
There isn't a formal offer out to Rooney Mara yet, and it isn't known if she would accept the offer, should one be issued. The actress is considered the favorite to play Marie, the daughter of Josh Brolin's character. We also reported last month that Christian Bale is circling what is believed to be the villain role in Oldboy. That report also indicated Christian Bale won't make a decision until after he wraps production on The Dark Knight Rises.
Spike Lee is directing Oldboy from a screenplay by Mark Protosevich (Thor, I Am Legend). It isn't known when production will begin on Oldboy yet.
Oldboy comes to theaters October 11th, 2013 and stars Samuel L. Jackson, Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley, Lance Reddick, Michael Imperioli, James Ransone, Richard Portnow. The film is directed by Spike Lee.

@ghostw1 Yeah but it will only be a short time period so say 3 - 4 months for the nessceary pre-production and then its on to the next installment

@jayaottley No, I think Fincher is looking to film something else before any sequels. He also has a TV show with Kevin Spacey he's doing. And he tends to want long shooting schedules.

@pjwolsker Yeah he has already shot some of the Malik scenes and i think they've done some principal photography for it.

Unfortunately Rooney Mara is busy for the next few years, since the Millenium trilogy which is being remade by Fincher will all be film back to back..... So unfortunately its a no no for Spike and oldboy
