Tom Cruise will star in Oblivion for Universal Pictures
Tom Cruise will star as one of the only humans left on Earth, a soldier who repairs the drones which roam the planet and destroy alien beings. The rest of human civilization now lives above the clouds, since the planet has become too toxic. When this soldier finds a woman who crash landed on Earth, they go on a unique journey together, discovering that what they have been told about Earth may not be true.
Joseph Kosinski will direct from a screenplay by Karl Gajdusek, who polished the original script by William Monahan. Production is scheduled to begin in October, with a $100 million budget. It is also said that Oblivion will be eyed for a PG-13 rating.
Oblivion comes to theaters July 19th, 2013 and stars Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Melissa Leo. The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski.

@k-man Ha Agreed and i love that they got Tom to do it...im sure there will be a lot of running involved.
As for the title, i read that since it moved to Universal that they are keeping the name Oblivion for sure. It was just Disney that wanted to change it...lame.
Its going to be awesome man!.

@nautical05 - Yeah, I follow slashfilm as well. They have been all over the Oblivion news.
By the way, is the title going to be Oblivion or Horizons? Its been going back and forth so much that I dont even know where it stands anymore.
And yes, I will definitely be checking out the graphic novel the day it comes out.
Lastly, it's funny that you say that about Disney because that was the VERY FIRST thing that came to my mind as well as soon as I heard they were dropping it and Universal was picking it up!! Hell yeah, bring on the more intense version!!

Oh man ive been so excited for this movie. Slashfilm has been fallowing it closely and i cant wait to buy the graphic novel. Also i think it was a good thing for Disney to pass this up because now it can be more intense.

I cant even tell you how excited this makes me! After Tron: Legacy, which exceeded any expectations I had for the film, I am a big fan of Joseph Kosinski and have been anticipating his next film with great enthusiasm. He is a real visionary director with great talent! The fact that Oblivion, which I have been following the progress of very closely, now has the green light, with Tom Cruise in the lead, is very, very exciting.
Cant wait to see how this turns out.
