'Ninja Turtles' Casts Leonardo, Donatello and Michelangelo Roles

The Michael Bay produced reboot turns its back on Corey Feldman and the rest of the original turtles, going for relative unknowns.
Leonardo, Donatello, and Michelangelo have finally been cast in Ninja Turtles, producer Michael Bay's reboot of the franchise, and its not Corey Feldman, the Workaholics, or any of the other original cast members. Director Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles; Wrath of the Titans) has instead decided to go with a cast of relative unknowns.

Ninja Turtles cast

Pete Ploszek, who only has two credits to his name with bit parts on Showtime's Shameless and NBC's Parks and Recreation, has been hired to play Leonardo, the blue masked katana expert of the group. He is the oldest turtle, and considered the leader.

Jeremy Howard has signed on as Donatello, the scientist and smartest of the turtles, a role originated by Corey Feldman. Don wears a purple mask and is a master of the bo staff. He is the least violent of the turtles and likes to use his brain rather than his fists in a conflict. Jeremy Howard played Sketchy on Breaking Bad and has a lot of one-off TV credits to his name.

Finally, Noel Fisher will play Michelangelo, the orange-masked master of the nunchaku. He is the most free-spirited of the turtles, and serves as the comic relief. He has a punchline for every occasion, and is most prone to spouting catchphrases like the classic "Cowabunga" and the newer "Booyakasha". He is also the most likely to order pizza when it comes time for dinner. Noel Fisher is the most known of the new quartet, with a recurring role on Showtime's Shameless, a main role in the mini-series Hatfields & McCoys, and a supporting role in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2.

Alan Ritchson (Aquaman on Smallville) was announced as Raphael last week. The characters will be motion-capture and carry the traits of their actors. It is not known if this quartet is trained in martial arts and their respective weaponry.

Megan Fox was the first to be cast, but it is not known if she will be playing TV reporter April O'Neil, a role originated by Judith Hoag in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. The role has also been played by Paige Turco in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, as well as Sarah Michelle Gellar in the 2007 animated reboot TMNT. The character is currently portrayed by Mae Whitman of Arrested Development and Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World on the 2012 animated reboot.

What do you think about this casting line-up? Are you disappointed that none of the original turtles are returning?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comes to theaters August 8th, 2014 and stars Megan Fox, William Fichtner, Will Arnett, Alan Ritchson, Jeremy Howard, Noel Fisher, Pete Ploszek, Danny Woodburn. The film is directed by Jonathan Liebesman.

@ejk1 I totally agree with @dowhatwedo.... MoCap is very "acting heavy" in that it's a lot more than JUST a voice over... Andy Serkis has won many awards and nominations for his MoCap work as an actor. But whatever point @dowhatwedo did make totally got ruined by the douchebaggery of his last comment... Grow up bro

@dowhatwedo I don't do the whole slang acronym thing that much, so I had to look up what SMD stands for. I wasn't aware this was going to turn into something acrimonious. If you have an issue with something I say, by all means, say something educated. Don't resort to the gutter, unless you've run out of intelligent things to say (which I'm guessing is highly possible).

@dowhatwedo The issue was about the film hiring unknowns. The point of my words is that it doesn't matter because we are not going to know the actors on a personal level on this film. Sometimes the simple truth is the correct answer.

@ejk1 I'm not arguing over the fact that they are no name actors... I was simply stating that they aren't just lending their voices... Go to YouTube and watch Andy Serkis and the cast from Avatar behind the scenes in their respective movies.... They are 100% acting out every single movement down to the facial expressions, and all of that shows in the CGI character in the final film.... Once again not arguing over casting... I'm not about crusifying a movie before anything has been shown... Simply stating that your outlook on the amount of input the actors have on their characters is a bit simplistic... That's all

@dowhatwedo Again, so what? All they will be doing is moving around with the sensors in place. Then they do their voice over work. At no point will you see those people. Ruffalo you saw as Banner. He had to act as Banner. What lines did he say as Hulk? "Puny God" and...? As for Serkis, Same deal, only reverse. Aside from the opening scene of ROTK, he hasn't been seen in any of his big films. These actors are not big names? So what. Serkis isn't a big name. How many big roles has Serkis received beyond mo-cap over the past decade? Where he is a main star, and you actually see him as he is? None. Some of you are disappointed over weird things, and this qualifies. They are playing ninja turtles. They don't have to be big named stars.

@ejk1 because they will be Mo-Cap, the turtles will more than likely resemble the actors... such as Mark Ruffalo's Hulk, Avatar or Andy Serkis' Gollum etc... not trying to argue just stating that now-a-days in movies like this that use Mo-Cap its not just the actors voice they use

I'm just putting this out there, but I think Mickey Rourke would be great as Shredder. He has the acting talent and badass presence for it.

@ejk1 they will be Mo-Cap so they will actually have to act... Much rather would've had Blake, Ders, Adam and Corey doing the voices but and I'm a bit bummed that they aren't... However I still have hope in this film

This isn't a big deal, really. These guys are just supplying their voices, which anyone can do. Voice acting does not need to be done by A-list or even C-list Hollywood Stars. Otherwise, Steve Blum and Kevin Conroy et al wouldn't have their careers.

Just because they got some unknown actors to play the turtles, it doesn't mean that the movie will be bad, I guessed they wanted to take a chance on someone new, there not necessarily anything wrong with that.
