20th Century Fox is moving forward with Night at the Museum 3. Ben Stiller is returning as security guard Larry Daley and Shawn Levy is directing. The studio has slated the follow-up for a December 25, 2014 release date. The sequel is currently the only movie occupying the Christmas Day frame, for now.

Back in December 2010, screenwriter Thomas Lennon hinted that the sequel was being written, although he refused to confirm or deny his own statement. Thomas Lennon wrote the first two movies, 2006's Night at the Museum and 2009's Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian with Robert Ben Garant. Their involvement has not been confirmed at this time.

The sequel marks a return to director Shawn Levy's comedy roots after 2011's robot boxing thriller Real Steel. He directed the first two movies, Night at the Museum and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. Ben Stiller will next be seen in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, opening December 25, 2013.

No story details have been released for Night at the Museum 3, so stay tuned. Night at the Museum centered on Ben Stiller's Larry Daley, who takes a job as a night security guard at New York's Museum of Natural History. He discovers that, once the lights go out, everything in the museum comes to life. The sequel Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian moves the action to Washington D.C., with Larry trying to break Jedediah (Owen Wilson) and Octavius (Steve Coogan) out of the Smithsonian Institute, where he meets a host of historical characters that have also come to life.

Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb comes to theaters December 19th, 2014 and stars Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Dan Stevens, Ricky Gervais, Rebel Wilson, Ben Kingsley. The film is directed by Shawn Levy.
