Nicholas Hoult discusses playing Beast in X-Men: First Class
X-Men: First Class will hit theaters across the country on June 3, which takes a look at the younger versions of our favorite mutants from the comic books and previous movies. Nicholas Hoult plays the young Beast, a character previously portrayed by Kelsey Grammer in X-Men: The Last Stand. Nicholas Hoult did reveal that he studied Kelsey Grammer's accent to portray Beast, although he believes his younger Beast is a far different character.

"I feel they were very different characters. In the other film, Beast was a politician, and he's been in this place for a long time. In this one he's young and he's a scientist. And when he changes, that comes with quite a bit of anger and embarrassment. He's very intelligent, obviously, and creates great inventions. But there's also this side of him where you have this conflict of wanting to be normal and wanting to fit in. That's going on. And then there's also the side, once he becomes the Beast. There's a Jeckyll and Hyde aspect, where he's scared of what he's capable of."

Last month, director Matthew Vaughn spoke about bringing a James Bond feel to X-Men: First Class, which Nicholas Hoult elaborated on.

"To me, personally, I really wonder why he said that. We were doing a scene of hanking and waving, and Luffy said, do it like James Bond, say the line like James Bond. Well, he actually said, do it like James Bond, and I said, I don't know if that will come off as cheesy or Bond-like. And he said, do it, and then we'll decide."

We also reported earlier this month that Nicholas Hoult landed the role of Jack in Bryan Singer's Jack the Giant Killer. He is also slated to star in George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road and here's what he had to say about both those projects.

"Hopefully, Max will be starting next year. George Miller is a fantastic director, so I'm looking forward to getting started on that. And Jack, yeah, we haven't really started work on it yet, but we're shooting pretty soon. It's a kind of reimagied version of Jack and the Beanstalk."

@ejk1 I am absolutlyon the same page as you. While the movies bascially discarded any sense of the original continuity...this film seems to follow that tradition. What is important to me is not so much the difference in the storylines but the fact that the heart of the x men...the "Deam" as they say maintains the heartbeat of the books. As disapointed as i am with the timeline issues, its the x men's passion and sympathy that matters most to me.

Brett Ratner and Avi Arad obviously could care less about the undertones and tolerance of the characters. Was the action good in Ratner's film...sure. But he sucked the life pulse and the meaning of the x Men right out of the series.

I hope that we get something better here.

Congrats to Hoult for landing the role of Jack.

As for what he said about Beast and X-Men, it doesn't matter to me. What will matter is how well this movie is executed. I've been very vocal about my displeasure about the turns the film took plotwise, but that does not mean I'm rooting against it. I hope it succeeds so that I can eat some crow in a review.

I'm pleasantly surprised at how well Nicholas' career is going. Being a Brit myself, I've seen him mature into a solid actor over the years. Good for him.
