New Where the Wild Things Are Test Footage!

Ain't It Cool has found a clip of the new Spike Jonze feature Where the Wild Things Are. The new fantasy film is an adaptation of the classic Maurice Sendak children's book. Where the Wild Things Are follows the adventure of Max (Max Records), a mischievous young boy who is sent to his room after rebelling against his mother (Catherine Keener). Max's imagination is free to roam, and it soon transports him to a thriving forest bordering a vast sea. Delighted, he sets sail for the land of the Wild Things, where mischief reigns and Max rules. UPDATE!

Director Spike Jonze has officially responded to this footage being leaked online, which apparently isn't anything final we'll see onscreen in the finished film.

That was a very early test with the sole purpose of just getting some footage to Ben our vfx (visual effects) supervisor to see if our vfx plan for the faces would work. The clip doesn't look or feel anything like the movie, the Wild Thing suit is a very early cringy prototype, and the boy is a friend of ours Griffin who we had used in a Yeah Yeah Yeahs video we shot a few weeks before. We love him, but he is not in the actually film...Oh and that is not a wolf suit, its a lamb suit we bought on the internet. Talk to you later... - Spike


Warner Bros. Pictures has scheduled to release Where the Wild Things Are October 3rd.

Where the Wild Things Are was released October 16th, 2009 and stars Max Records, Pepita Emmerichs, Max Pfeifer, Madeleine Greaves, Joshua Jay, Ryan Corr, Catherine Keener, Steve Mouzakis. The film is directed by Spike Jonze.

    Dear Mr. Jonze, thanks so much for clarifying things.... I had my susp*cions that it was a test run. I know you're not the type of director who abandon's his source material. Can't believe some people actually thought the monster was CG'd.... clearly a big muppet and I love it.... brings me back to the glory days of Jim Henson films like Dark Crystal & Labyrinth.... I know you'll do Sendack's book honor. Thanks for clearing things up for us fans. Look forward to the finished film. Best of luck!

    I'm kind of dissapointed with the fact that this isn't how its going to look. I really like it. I don't usually get into the kids stuff, but I thought it looked weird enough, and visually stimulating enough to get and keep my attention. I liked the gritty look of it alot.
