The Fire Nation is waging a ruthless, oppressive war against the other three nations. The film's hero, the reluctant young Aang (Noah Ringer), is The Last Airbender: the Avatar who, according to prophecy, has the ability to manipulate all of the elements and bring all the nations together. Aided by a protective teenage Waterbender named Katara (Nicola Peltz) and her bull-headed brother Sokka, Aang proceeds on a perilous journey to restore balance to their war-torn world. Jackson Rathbone plays Katara's brother Sokka, and Dev Patel plays Prince Zuko, prince of the Fire Nation. Mandvi is set to play the role of Commander Zhao, an ambitious and hot-tempered Fire Nation commander. Toub is cast as Uncle Iroh, the retired Fire Nation general and devoted surrogate parent to Dev Patel's character Zuko. Curtis is set to play the ruthless ruler Fire Lord Ozai. Keong Sim has been cast in the role of Earthbending Father. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, The Last Airbender opens July 2nd, 2010.

he's an awesome director in any account. It would be cool if he did a fantasy trilogy, it'll be weird and strange all at the same time.Plus it would be a bold move.

  5. The Narrator: The Better Man

He made such awesome and memorable movies as Unbreakable, Sixth Sense, and Signs (a guilty pleasure). I mean he is a great gu who thinks of his kids and stories n one else will tell. Sometimes thats his downfall but he is still bold and strange in a cool way.Can&#699t wait for this.

Hopefully directing an adaption rather than his own stories will redeem Shyamalan. I think he's still a competent director.

I will agree that the happening and lady in the water sucked. But that doesn't stop me from liking this guy. He is my favorite director. I loved the tv series, and he is perfect for it. I really hope this helps his career out. I will be there at midnight.

Also, excellent point made by Diaigma

    Cell,

Note that this isn't an M. Night original. It's a tested and successful story. Hard to screw up.
This could do for Night's career like LOTR did for Jackson.
You're right. I didn't like Happening or lady in the water either, but 2 bad eggs out of 6 films from an up-and-coming director is supposed to make me stop supporting him?
The fact that this is an ADAPTION should give us more hope.
We should have stopped watching Speilberg after 1941, I guess,
    or Cameron after Piranha 2
    or Columbus after Heartbreak Hotel
or Howard after Gung Ho . . .
    Etc, etc.
I think you're more open minded than that ;)
