New Line to Make Mysterious Travels: The Lost Map of Treasure Island

According to Variety, New Line, Walden Media and ContraFilm are coming together again to make a sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth.

The sequel is to be based on a screenplay by Richard Outten's titled Mysterious Travels: The Lost Map of Treasure Island. In this film Prof. Trevor Anderson and his nephew find themselves on a journey to a mysterious island.

The original Journey to the Center of the Earth from those companies starred Brendan Fraser and Josh Hutcherson. It made $241 million worldwide.

Eric Brevig directed the film but there is no word yet on whether he or Fraser and Hutcherson will return.
