New Line Is Developing a New Nightmare on Elm Street Film

Bloody Disgusting is reporting that New Line Cinema is putting a new A Nightmare On Elm Street film into production.

That's right, all previous plans have been scrapped. There will be no prequel, and the studio is back at square one with the project. Ideas are currently being thrown around, but a solid story idea has yet to be locked down.

As of this moment, Freddy vs Jason 2 has been put on indefinite hold. Work on a new A Nightmare On Elm Street will most likely go forward after the Friday the 13th redo is completed.

Friday the 13th was released February 13th, 2009 and stars Jared Padalecki, Danielle Panabaker, Amanda Righetti, Travis Van Winkle, Aaron Yoo, Derek Mears, Jonathan Sadowski, Julianna Guill. The film is directed by Marcus Nispel.

I love Michael, just the thought of him and Jason engaging against each other is funny as hell, and could easily ruin it for the reasons I gave.

a good point is a good point.
michael and jason never run when people are looking, yet they never seem to be too far behind.

Don't ever diss Michael. . . . lol. . . . I think though that Michael does move a hell of a lot faster than people give him credit for. I mean hello I think I remember a couple of his movies where he ran. I fully support a Freddy Vs Jason 2 with Michael Myers and Ash.

Well "V2K," there may be many directions that can be taken for a film of that stature. I've no doubt of that, but the real point is, how far will they go before it's just too far? If you catch my drift. Cuz you don't want it to be totally corny. It's bad enough that 1 of the guys is a slow walking zombie, but 2 of them??? Not sure if that'd work out to be that entertaining. Plus if there was a Micheal Jason fight, then it'd suck cuz they both walk hella slow and don't talk at all. It'd just be a deep breathing contest to see who's the greater intimidator.

    And that's really funny "err2005"...seriously.

oh what the hell, theve remade everything else, might as well remake nightmare on elm street.

lets see for the uber-hollywood version we can get shia labiff to play freddy, and it can be directed by brett ratner, and we can get hanna montana to play the damsel in distress and her cop father can be played by clive owen.

because f*ck it, if youre gonna sh*t all over a classic you may as well take the time and spray diarrhea on it too.

There is infact a good idea for Freddy Vs. Jason 2 slysnide. They are looking at bringing Michael Myers from Halloween and/or Ash from The Evil Dead series. It's really more of an or, but I think if they bring in Michael, then Michael Myers, Freddy Kruegar, and Jason Voorhees can duke it out, while at the same time trying to kill off Ash who is constantly trying to stop them. I think there are many angles that a Freddy Vs. Jason 2 can go.

FVJ2 wouldn't really accomplish much else in the genre. It'd just be a rehash of the first one, and like most films like this, they'll both end up winning and/or losing in the end. So it would be nothing new. They did a decent job at meshing the sagas together the first time, but it felt much more like a "Nightmare" sequel than a mixed movie, in that the story revolved around the mythology of the Elm Street saga. So if they did ever do a sequel, then perhaps it should be made to revolve around the "Friday" saga.

As for a "Nightmare" sequel, the original was the only really good one in the series. The more about Freddy that was revealed as the series wore on and the more screentime he had, the less scary and tantalizing the series became, and Freddy came to be known as everyone's favorite dicer. Maybe if they went back to the basics it'd succeed. If they did that, then I'd be interested in seeing it. Cuz it'd be better than a new "Nightmare" sequel altogether.

As for "Wes Craven's New Nightmare," it was sorta about Craven's career, as he even said it was on a doc*mentary about him on disc 2 of the original "Hills Have Eyes" special edition DVD. Therefore, Freddy was in it, but it wasn't supposed to be seen as a nightmare sequel, since Wes himself was a star in the film, and it spoke of his career at large...with Freddy popping in and out at random times. So that was good. There was a long segment on the film in said doc*mentary, and though I've yet to see "New Nightmare," I really want to! It looks rather interesting.

Depending on how good or bad F13 does may depend on whether or not there'll be an FVJ2. But they should still be going ahead with the "Nightmare" film regardless, since that too has a large cult following.

Is this a remake or another in the ANOES series? Wonder if this series has still got what it takes to be as scary as it was in the 80's? Noticed that Freddy vs Jason 2 has been put on hold. I enjoyed the first film, but this news doesn't disappoint me. Not sure what this movie could have done to top the first one? Think all the best ideas were spent doing that.

I think we've been hearing about a New A Nightmare on Elm Street since Freddy vs. Jason.
Robert Englund is stuck in b-movie hell now, he seemed interested in a new Nightmare movie a few years back, but stated he couldn't do the heavy work load anymore.
    erncrazy
A New Nightmare pretty much stated that the first 6 Elm Street movies where movies in themselves, with the last one being about demon who takes Freddy's appearance in real life.

crypt..... they deserve much more credit than that. As for this new A Nightmare on Elm Street Movie, haven't we known about this for quite some time now? I'm looking forward to it, but I'm not sure how I feel about this without Robert Englund.

erncrazy. They tried New Nightmare not as a remake, but as a sequel, that would bring Freddy into reality. Sure it wasn't that great, but it wasn't a remake at all. Are you sure you've even seen it?

FRED KRUGER KICKS ASS...been a freddy fans since I was a little kid.Freddy vs. Jason was mediocre..I watch it cuz Freddy's in it but I'm sick of watching or looking for the same old nightmare movies so it's nice theyre making a new one.Hopefully the writing of the story will be a little bit better than freddy and jason.I dont know what it was about freddy vs jason..It was good it just semmed off for some reason..The fight scenes kicked ass though.

I agree with kyle hannah. If the remakes of Elm Street and Friday the 13th are made before Freddy vs Jason 2, it might get people interested in the genre again so they see FvJ2. That is if they don't suck like so many other remakes. Do them justice!!

What... the... f**k? Why the hell are movie makers redoing all the classics? Leave 'em like they are, people! The originals are great, so you don't need to do any more redos! Get a f**in' move on with Freddy vs. Jason 2, for pete's sake!
