New Karate Kid Behind-the-Featurette Hits

Sony has made a new featurette from The Karate Kid available. This behind-the-scenes look at the film features Director Harald Zwart, Jaden Smith, and Jackie Chan. Watch it now...

In Columbia Pictures' The Karate Kid, 12-year-old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) could've been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother's (Taraji P. Henson) latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying - and the feeling is mutual - but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre's feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts "the karate kid" on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), who is secretly a master of kung fu. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.

The Karate Kid stars Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan, Taraji P. Henson, and Tess Liu.

It comes to theaters June 11 from Columbia Pictures.

The Karate Kid was released June 11th, 2010 and stars Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan, Taraji P. Henson, Wenwen Han, Rongguang Yu, Zhensu Wu, Zhiheng Wang, Zhenwei Wang. The film is directed by Harald Zwart.

Child actors don't go to school before they act; that's the nature of being a child actor. Jayden Smith has only been in three movies in the past four years.
I'll give you the example of Bailey Madison, who is ten years old, and gave arguably the best performance in Brothers out of a cast that included Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Natalie Portman, and Carey Mulligan.

It looks pretty cute, but I'm annoyed that it's called The Karate Kid when it takes place in China.

Jaden Smith needs to learn the trade before jumping in, but his father is so gun ho about his kids future career that he's forgetting that people have to go to acting school to become better actors.
I respect Will but I'm not respecting him for how he's handling the situation.
This is a Will Smith Production, he pushed for this to happen. One of the reasons why I lost faith in him.
