As director James Gunn tells it, the villainous Yondu was not supposed to be in Guardians of the Galaxy. But he wrote the part specifically for his longtime friend and collaborator Michael Rooker, which Disney and Marvel thought was a great idea. Check out a teaser of this iconic monster from the deep reaches of the galaxy as James Gunn recounts the tale of how Yondu came to be in this Marvel Phase Two adventure. We also have three UK character posters giving us a fresh look at Rocket, Groot and Gamora.
One fan asked James Gunn why Michael Rooker's Yondu doesn't have his big red fin in the Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel adaptation. The director explains,
is my friend, but he is clumsy and I don't want him knocking his head off walking through doorways. I'm in a surreal situation where the biggest disappointment expressed by some fans over the comics-to-movie translation is that Michael Rooker
doesn't have a flamboyant and flowing three foot red fin atop his head. He does have a fin and it is very awesome it's just very short. I could have done a lot of things but I helped to design the way he looks because I like it better and believe it."
Here are new UK character posters featuring three of the main core members of Guardians of the Galaxy, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon and Vin Diesel as Groot.
Guardians of the Galaxy comes to theaters August 1st, 2014 and stars Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond, Lee Pace, Glenn Close, Karen Gillan. The film is directed by James Gunn.
