New details on The Return of the King extended edition!

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King: Hitting store shelves in December, The Return of the King will get it's extended edition treatment. According to a recent article in EW, the film is scheduled to be 49 minutes longer in length with over 300 new FX shots added into the new sequences.

Among the new sequences, expect to see Gandalf facing down the Witch King at Minas Tirith, the Mouth of Sauron taunting Aragorn and company at the Black Gates, Aragorn tending to Eowyn at the House of Healing, and Gandalf's final confrontation with the wizard Saruman.

More audio commentaries are also to be included along with 2 extra discs full of documentaries.

Just as well, the faux leather slipcasing for this set is expected to be blue.

The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King was released December 17th, 2003 and stars Noel Appleby, Alexandra Astin, Sean Astin, David Aston, John Bach, Sean Bean, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom. The film is directed by Peter Jackson.
