New Details on Stalled Anchorman and Zoolander Sequels

Anchorman and Zoolander and not dead yet!
Anchorman and Zoolander and not dead yet!
We have reported last night and last week that two sequels to Paramount comedies weren't moving forward and now some new details have emerged. Deadline New York is reporting that both Anchorman 2 and Zoolander 2 aren't totally dead but need to come in with much leaner budgets to get made.

It was said that Paramount still wants to make the films, but will apparently wants to make the films for around $40 million apiece. The site is also reporting that the Anchorman 2 filmmakers are looking at a budget of around $70 million and it was said that the Zoolander 2 will likely be about 20% higher than the $40 million budget mark.

One of the reasons given for the studio to make the film on such a lean budget has to do with the international box office performances of the original films. While Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy took in a respectable $85 million at the domestic box office, it only brought in $5 million internationally and Zoolander performed similarly, with a $45 million domestic take and just $15 million internationally.

We'll be sure to keep you posted on any developments on both of these potential sequels as soon as we have more information.

Anchorman: The Legend Continues comes to theaters December 20th, 2013 and stars Paul Rudd, Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Christina Applegate, Luke Wilson, David Koechner, James Marsden. The film is directed by Adam McKay.

Zoolander 2 is in development and stars Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell. The film is directed by Justin Theroux.

Look the cast should put up some of there own money toward the film! Plenty of other actors have done this before when they feel strongly about a project they are wrkin on, and issues come up about the production cost they become part ex-producers: mean put money in so it can be made!

Mattyboy.... why not? It's not like they were dramatic social commentary. They're comedies with great characters. Why not have another outing?

But now they have built in audiences and the bigger names returning. People know who Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd are now. Not to mention people who found the movies on DVD and enjoyed them will go see the sequel.

Just sounds like Paramount is trying to pull a fast one. Farrell and Stiller should agree to the $40mil budget but put in their contracts that they get a percentage of the gross if it goes over studio expectations.
