Neill Blomkamp Starts Next Untitled Sci-Fi Project

Media Rights Capital is teaming up with District 9 writer-director Neill Blomkamp for an untitled sci-fi project will begin production by the middle of next year, according to Variety.

"MRC is letting me make the film I want to make, and that is by far the most important thing here," Blomkamp said. "The film will hopefully be commercial, but it is very much a singular film, (one) that comes directly from me."

Blomkamp will immediately start writing and preparing the visual effects. The film will be modest by sci-fi standards, but it will certainly cost more than District 9, which was budgeted under $30 million and grossed more than $184 million worldwide.

The project will begin production the middle of next year.

Wait, now that I looked it up, the rumors at comic-con that said Forster was out were disproved by Max Brooks himself. Dang, I don't want Forster for this movie.

I am really glad to hear that J.A., because Forster was screwing up what Max Brooks liked about the original screenplay. Oh if only he would do World War Z. Please Blomkamp, do it

I was hoping the next project out of him would be Halo. But I'm sure anything he does will be gold.

I don't know how to interpret this (the last line):

"The film will hopefully be commercial, but it is very much a singular film, (one) that comes directly from me"

by "comes directly from me" does he mean it's a fully original s*ript from him, or the version of someone else's work?
The language indicates the first one, but after D9 I assumed a studio would want him behind the camera for some highly-anticipated project...

District 9 was only $30 million to make? Wow.

J.A., Cripple, I agree. WWZ + Blomkamp = epic. If only. Can't wait for this, and here's hoping he soon moves to big budget blockbusters. Bring some actual story to all that noise during summer.

Sounds good, after watching Distric 9 (which was one of the best sci-fi's i've seen for a long time) i have alot of faith in Mr Blomkamp's capabilities so i shall certainly look forward to anything he has to write/direct!

    Cripple...
Marc Foster dropped World War Z, apparently there is no attached director, but i could see WWZ being sheer brilliance in the hands off Blomkamp

I love Blomkamp. I want to hear plot details soon. Also, I think he should be the one to direct World War Z instead of Marc Forster

Cool beans, but I hope he doesn't become a one-trick pony like George Romero. That's not saying I won't watch his sci-fi movies, I'd just like him to branch out to other genres.
